He wasn't 33 when we had Maguire, Chester et al. But magically found himself playing. As I've said numerous times before, winning a tackle is great, it's what he did with the ball afterwards that people take issue with. I wasn't expecting some sort of miracle dribbling ability or pinpoint 100% pass rate, but he was bloody awful with the ball at his feet and couldn't pass a note on to his Mum if it was written on his head. In the modern game you need to be able to do more than just one thing, he couldn't. He was never a threat in the box either, something that our centre halves generally always have been.

As for his contract not being renewed because of who his father is, that's just hearsay. If they didn't want to spend the wages on him, they could have released him on a free transfer in January if it was down to who his Dad was.

It's amazing, 'he never let us down' is how he is remembered. Honestly, how many of our players have 'never let us down' in history? Lots. Andy Dawson never let us down, neither did Barmby or Whittle. Good, as a minimum requirement, I'd expect any player that pulls on a shirt not to let us down. That fact that he didn't isn't something to celebrate, it's an expectation.

He didn't magically find himself playing. He was a back up who came in and did a job when there were injuries or suspensions. And sometimes he was given a a longer run when he played well. Nothing more.

IMO 'not letting us down' isn't due to any measure of skill, it's giving 100% of your effort.

If you want to look at mistakes then there isn't a single player ever that didn't let his team down at some point

Missing an open goal is the same as missing a defensive header if you judge it that way

We have had much more talented players than Alex Bruce and they have clearly let us down as they didn't deliver on their commitment

Hector most recently missed a very scorable chance AND was involved with irvine in the cock up that led to Preston's winner - did he let us down? No

If players are just going through the motions then they are letting us down

****ing hell this is hard work.

Primary job as a defender is to defend. Not to spray 50/60 yard passes. You have others in the team to do that job.

Meanwhile in the real world we have Hector who can pass but can't tackle for ****.

Guess which side would be more successful and which has the weak link?

Just leave it then, it's an opinion, if you don't like it then tough. I only responded because you said something daft.

If I knew it would make the gruesome twosome leave I would sacrifice a poor finish (not relegation ) this year.

You're right it wasn't magical - it was the worst case of nepotism in modern sport -davies put on naughty step, macca put on naughty step, Maguire farmed out, Liam cooper sold - all at better clubs than where Junior ended up but all dropped to give Junior a game - stinks

Blimey Brucey played him instead of mcshane and Davies. No wonder we got relegated playing with ten men.

I don't think Maguire should be in your list, bought from a league 1 club, young but you think he should walk into a Premier League team over a player who helped get us there. Davis was one of the squad and had his ups and downs. Macca and Copper were losers in the need to sell to buy better game (which I don't agree with by the way)

Don't really understand this sort of poll.

Every City game I go to, I want us to be successful and win. Whether that be at home against Scarborough or away at manchester united. And if that happens often enough it's probable the team will be promoted. I want the team and Slutsky to be successful and be promoted despite the odds being stacked against them.

Maybe it's a Hull mentality thing, but I like the feeling of fighting adversity. Maybe that's what drives Slutsky? Don't like the opposition rubbing my nose in it, even if it is the enemy within. That's why I support City.

If, BIG if, that promotion happens, it will stick in my throat that the two ****s in charge will bask in the glory of it and imply their stewardship created it. It doesn't, didn't and never will do.

The careful, prudent building of foundations initially laid by Adam Pearson and Brian Little are rapidly being dismantled by the poisonous bitter actions of the ALLAMS (OUT!!!).

Failure, or relegation would be a disaster for the club. Why would anyone vote for it?

I liked Alex Bruce whilst he was at City (didn't follow his career before and haven't afterwards).

He never let us down as GLP mentioned, and had to do that in the face of continual insinuation that he only played because of his old man.

Not so, a typical journeyman pro, of which City have had many, the difference being he was one of the better ones.

In addition, outside of football he was a particularly courteous gentleman. Not something you can say about many of the brats that play football nowadays.

charon, I think you will find in the seasons Alex Bruce played and we got relegated (and let's chuck in the FA Cup Final for good measure) he was not the only City player on the pitch. There were at least 10 other culprits, often more when subs were used.

    Heh, heh.

He's at the end of his career, he's not likely to be playing higher up the footballing pyramid at this stage of his career is he?

Nah, the twats would have worded it :

Success in the Championship because we are such generous, empathetic, benevolent club owners.

Failure in the championship because of all the bad people. i.e. Hull City Council, the supporters, CTID, the Housemartins, Maureen Lipman, Amy Johnson, the Humber Bridge, the terrorists (that's why we built the gate). All the bad people, The bad people are all out there. The Allams are good people.

No **** off you are not.

    ALLAMS OUT!!!

    Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

He never kissed the badge. He didn't need to, because he did his talking on the pitch.

Ken Knighton, Jimmy McGill, Gary Brabin, Ian Ashbee, David Meyler, Alex Bruce. There MUST be one of these type of players in our team at all times.
