It was only a few months back that his win percentage was the worse of all RD’s managers with the exception of Fraeye.
Couldn't stand him at first, didn't want him. But I've changed my mind now, and I hope that the eventual new owners keep him on.
Here are Karl Robinson's league results, against those of all previous Charlton managers during our times in the 3rd division. Powell, Parkinson, Bailey, Nelson and of course Jimmy Seed all have superior win rates. Karl Robinson has a win rate currently 3% higher than Theo Foley. Aside from Foley and Russel Slade, you have to go back 90 years to find a manager with a poorer win rate. And that was an era when Charlton had never been higher than Division 3.
he's growing on me. but, i still dont think he's quite right for us. his record at MK wasnt the greatest in this division. saying that, he's doing really well and probably deserves to stay on with or without new owners. if it was down to me. i'd still rather have SCP in the champ with crowds of 16000.
What that table doesn't show is an improvement during Robinson's tenure. He took over from a 25% win rate, and has had to work under Roland's conditions. I also like the fact that he's brought in Jacko and Bowyer, who could easily be seen as threats to his position. Steve Avory clearly respects him as well.
6/10 for me. Not the most likeable character, it all comes down to whether he delivers promotion this season. It is an insult being in this Pie League.
https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/...stayed-and-addicks-went-on-to-gain-promotion/ This was published yesterday, am I reading this correctly that Charlton could not afford to keep Novak & Crofts.... yet Scunny could afford to sign them? I get the feeling that the Manager wasn't at all happy with that decision.
I can't see anything there that say it was a decision by the club. In Novak's case he wanted away, probably because in a 4-5-1 he'd always be on the bench when Mag was fit. I'd guess something similar with Crofts, at that age you want first-team action.
Down to Roland if we don't go up. Not a single manager has been successful since he took over Charlton. If he'd bought in another dud we'd be looking at L2 by now, if not in it already.
Not sure why he would of wanted to keep crofts? Aribo and Dijksteel can’t get a game there so would of been a waste of money for a dreadful player. Novak is understandable.
I saw the vast majority of Andrew Crofts games for us, and in 95% of them he was woeful. He lacks the skill to create anything and the legs to break play up. Novak was a fat waste of space for us - too slow to get himself in positions to convert chances.
My reading is this, if the transfers hadn't annoyed him then he would have just said that Noval wanted to go back up North and Crofts wanted more first team football than he could promise.... and end it there, but he goes on to say what good Pro's they are almost saying that he wished they were still with us. I read it as a message to senior management that he wasn't at all happy with those decisions, especially when he wasn't allowed to bring in proper replacements!
Look I may be wrong... there's a first time for everything...but... ... I've never been wrong in the past.
KR knew he had to move someone on when he went in for Reeves. Think Novak was a surprise from what I’ve read though.
One year of Robinson & let’s be honest - 6th in League One is an average performance. I don’t see us having the quality or consistency to go on a 10-15 game winning run to get promotion. Robinson mistakes must include signing Reeves, signing Dodoo (a player so bad he dare not even use him) & talking up the sale of players.
