I've just been cornered by a load of Celtic fans claiming that we've just asked to speak to Rodgers! As they say up here - whit?
Rodgers would be a decent shout, too. Let's face it, he did better at 'Pool than Klipperty has done, so far.
If the contract is only until the end of the season, I doubt Kelvin or Watson would be going anywhere. Keep them on the staff in the event that they remain required for next season, should Hughes and his two assistants leave again.
I think Rodgers could be tempted to move to Saints. If I was your chairman, I'd be saying to him, "Look, Brendan! Remember how 'Pool bought so many of our players that they were practically our B team? Well, if you become coach, you won't have to spend any money, because they'll already be in your squad, mate!" That ought to clinch the deal.
Well to the first part, yes. I really was cornered. But aye, the rumour must be mince. Sparky is a done deal eh?
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/931918/Southampton-Mark-Hughes-Premier-League I know it's the Express but £2 million if he keeps us up!
I'm cool with that and I reckon we'll have enough with him in charge to beat the drop, we should only offer him a longer deal if we win the Cup as well though!
Let me explain Northern norms, mate. 1. Unless the temperature drops below -30 you stand about outside to have a fag. 2. If someone passes you know you shout across to them and catch up with the goss. So, no I wasn't inside. And this groups understanding of football is mind blowing. They tell me stuff about Saints that I don't know. Hotbed of football, lah. Not Romsey. Back on topic, I'd be made up if we got Rodgers. Happy with Sparky, if I'm honest, but Big Brendan would be a huge step up.
I’d pay Hughes twice that amount if he keeps us up. He was a winner in his playing career and had decent spells as a manager too. Koeman was a winner also and didn’t set the world alight in management til he came to us, Hughes deserves our support.
The other thing I like about Hughes is that, in general, he's fairly open and honest in post match interviews.
