Don't get why some of you are worried about Barton, I've read a lot of QPR fans saying he will fight with Taraabt, which in itself says very little for Taraabt's character as you're basically saying he is a fight waiting to happen - why don't you want rid of Taraabt then? Having said that, it IS a nailed on certainty Barton will **** up somewhere along the line but the majority of your fans won't give a **** because he's a good player and a big name. Also, it looks like Joey won't care about potentially playing in the Championship next year (no offense) as long as his financial future is sound, so the deal is a win-win where both parties are concerned imo.
I am with roller and have found all these rushed signings a joke I fear for the team who proved they can compete ... We all want success but it should be earned not brought
If you watch the replay, Gervinho was caught by whoever the defender was â for what it is worth! So he is OK because he is not as bad as King or Collymore and has only belted men? Very good question Col. Shamefully I will have to admit that I would cheer if he scores because it will be for my team, but that doesnât mean I want him here. I strongly disagree with your last comment. I know that there are very few âangelsâ in the football world, but there arenât many as bad as him. Agreed he was single out, what Song did to him was disgraceful. As for whether he has matured, time will tell.
He was technically caught but nowhere near enough to send him sprawling over like that. Barton knew what he was doing and I think it showed how much he's matured that he chose not to deck him. I honestly don't believe anyone can be negative about this signing.
most of us are extremely happy, some like rollercoaster, have concerns which im sure fans of alot of clubs would have but all in all people are pretty chuffed
Didn't dyer get sent off for fighting bowyer on the pitch? Didnt hear too much moaning when we signed him. Yes bartons had his fair share of trouble but hopefully warnock can man manage him well and who knows!
Love him or hate him, we have got an absolute bargain here. If Mike Ashley hadn't got the asshole with him, he'd have a new contract and be worth 10+ million. As it stands we've got him for nothing. He might have been an asshole in the past but when was the last time he was in trouble? Warnock is no idiot and will know he will have to be tough on him and I'm sure Barton realizes that this will be his last chance. I'd rather we had gone for Parker with a bigger offer, but Barton is a better player and cost nothing. The way I see it we can't lose.
Great thread Roller. I am a hypocrite - I was hoping for most of the day that he would muck us around and scuttle back up north. But now he's here I sincerely want him to be brilliant and will probably forgive him a lot. Pathetic eh? But there is a fundamental question - do you believe that ANYONE can reform, regret their past and turn over a new leaf? If yes, give him a chance, don't expect him to let you down. Again I am a hypocrite - I probably wouldn't give Marlon King the benefit, but I think Barton is trying, in an annoying and attention seeking way. This is a sign of weakness, not evil. There is no way he can succeed without support.
Roller, I understand your reservations. This is a really difficult one. Yes, Barton is a thug, there's no question about that. But, there's also no question that he's a big talent on the pitch. So the dilemma is this, do we sign a player who along with a few more decent signings, will keep us at football's top table. Or, not sign him because he has more baggage than Heathrow!
Signing a volatile thug is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman, First examine her throughly for a former injury that may affect performance, Secondly listen to her lies about needing space and time to think, Finally use someone else's credit card to pay for the meal and taxi in case she doesn't deliver the goods. Adel and the older crew are going to be on wages set on the old 'Cap'. Joeys wages may actually be double what our tubby Moroccan is earning. There may be trouble ahead...
He's not a nice bloke, but we aren't employing him to be nice, we're employing him to win football matches. And the Newcastle fan has a point. We love Adel, but he's a total prat (which we all know) - we forgive him because he helped get us promoted. if Barton helps us stay in the premier league, he will be in the same category.
Who knows, Barton could possibly turn out a QPR legend. Ok, he's a bit of a c*nt but as said upthread he's our c*nt now. We may not have much of a defence as yet but our midfield is ****ing awesome!
It is like Neil, we don't like them when they are at another club but we love them when they are with us. Just the bit of steel we will need in the prem. I for one think that with Barton and possibly Young and SWP we will be able to attract other quality players that we may need to get in the January window. Onwards and upwards.
Excellent response, SB73... and I admire Roller for sticking his head above the parapet with this thread in the first place. I have to agree with you and put myself firmly in the hypocrite category too. Barton is a good footballer but apparently not a particularly pleasant human being. His transfer is done now and I have to wish him well now he's there, although this morning I'd have preferred he'd rejected the offer.
I know that business is business and that this is a very good bit of business, but I find it hard to understand. In the last few weeks we have been told what a wonderful family club QPR is. People on here have spoken of Bhatia (and latterly Fernandes) in glowing terms in relation to that image. They come across like the Miss World entrants who, when asked what they wish for, say "I want world peace and to work with children and to save the little animals". Then they sign someone who, whilst being a superb footballer, doesn't seem to fit with that image and comes with enough baggage (some very recent) to require an extra pantechnicon when he moves from Newcastle to London. Barton says that the baggage comes laced with plenty of media hype. However, he doesn't help himself by his use of Twitter to fuel that hype. I really hope that this works out - for both parties. I look forward to reading about the great football played by QPR this season, but dread what other stories may dominate. I can hear the sound of second rate journos sharpening their knives as I write. Good luck Joey Barton. Good luck QPR.
To be honest I don't know I feel, Glad that the footballer Barton has joined, worried that he might clash with Adel and Shaurn.
