The Open gets underway on Thursday at Carnoustie. There are some good offers out there including Skybet going 10 places 1/5 odds
At the moment, I’ve backed Tommy Fleetwood 18/1 (holds the course record at Carnoustie) Rory Mcllroy 14/1 (has the all round game to be up there come Sunday) I will probably add a couple more before Thursday. Good luck.
Weather forecast indicates fairly benign conditions throughout the tournament. Even though this course has a fairly brutal reputation I shall be looking for a very good putter to invest in.
I'm not a big golf fan but always like watching the open.I was on Speith last year even though he had me pulling out my hair with his mid round antics on the last day. This year I like the look of Rickie 'Di Caprio' Fowler and I'm told the ladies do too!Big Jon 'Rambo' Rahm nearly held onto his Irish Open title two weeks ago with a great final round which also included a triple bogey! He's a real crowd favourite and a likeable guy so I hope he does well. The big hitting Kiwi Ryan Fox also caught my eye and he normally plays well on links courses. He looks abit of value at 80/1.I'll back all three Ew with Skybet paying top ten places.
With the fairways running like tarmac it should make very interesting viewing with different strategies being adapted. The big hitters on some par 4s like Rory and DJ can take driver out and could find themselves very close, if not on, the green on some holes! And these bombers will happily take the risk of finding the rough as they can carry the fairway bunkers which will be more penal than the bone dry, whispy rough. The plotters can take irons off the tee and run the ball out towards 300 yards, but an unlucky bounce could find the bunkers. So many options. I’ve backed a couple. One bomber and one bomber whose going to take iron more than most (like he did in France) and plot his way round. Dustin Johnston 12/1. Loves firm tracks, playing well, could be argued should be shorter. Justin Thomas 25/1. Intends to use iron quite a bit and rely on his sharp short iron/wedge game to reap rewards.
Looks like the forum will be in clover if the Thomas lad wins. I've joined that gang, plus Matsuyama @ 50s and Lahari @ a whopping 200/1. Good luck everyone. Hopefully another memorable Open at Carnoustie.
great start by Matthew Southgate who is my best outsider pick this week! also keen on Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose amongst the favourites. I will throw in another couple - Tony Finau and Matthew Fitzpatrick
As skybet were 10 places, here are my 10. R. Fowler R.McIlroy J. Rahm T. Fleetwood J. Thomas P. Reed R. Knox T. Peters J. Spieth D. Hohnson
I may be mental but after Brooks Koepka’s first round I’ve just doubled my bet on him. 33/1 1/4 first 5 places. 2 double bogeys and 2 bogeys on the front 9, then smashed the back 9 with 5 birdies.
I saw a stat yesterday about him and it said his worst placing in his last dozen majors was 21st, that’s unreal.saves it for the big ones!
Slightly aft timing, here are my picks... Russell Knox Thorbjorn Olsen Marc Leishman Fingers crossed...
If Rory partners Tommy in the Ryder Cup foursomes and they hole their second shot on a par five, will it be an Albatross by Fleetwood Mac? Boom, boom...
Missed cuts for the worlds two best, ****e! Took 33/1 on Spieth this morning to hopefully give some interest over the weekend. Seemed to be going well until the end of first round yesterday. So hard to call the winner and can see there being plenty heading into the final round within a couple of the lead the way it’s shaping up.
Well my picks were utter ****e and 2 of them went to extraordinary lengths to miss the cut. Justin Thomas (actually Stick's putting pick but had to back him after he'd been put up) was -4 on the 12 tee on day 1 and still -2 stood on the 6th tee on day 2. Matsuyama was an even more spectacular failure. He was +1 and comfortably in for the weekend only to rack up a 7 on the not so lucky last to miss the cut by 1 . With that sort of luck I should really give up betting on golf. But where's the fun in that? The early scores on day 3 indicate there's a low 60s for somebody. So a final punt in Koepka at 28/1 who is definitely capable of shooting low. Sorry to Karlos and anyone else who is already on.
