Our move for Reading player Evans is dragging out because hes hoping another Championship club come in for him apparently. Do we really want a player with that mentality?

Sunderland agreed a fee - thought to be around £700,000 - with Reading last week for the transfer of George Evans, but since that agreement was made the player has remained with the Berkshire club in their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Speaking after the 6-0 win over Saint Mirren yesterday, Jack Ross said the move is now dependent on Evans:

Evans I think is agreed between the clubs, that comes down to the player.
The club has met the personal demands of the player but the move is now in jeopardy due to the 23-year-old hoping to keep his options open, and possibly remain in the Championship. There had been talk of Derby County coming in for the midfielder, but as Frank Lampard’s team are not actually interested, Evans is either stuck with Reading for the time being or agrees to move to Sunderland.

While Evans may want to wait before deciding his future, Sunderland are pressing on with alternative targets just in case this one doesn’t happen.

We've had far too many people with a bad mentality in recent years.

I'm sure we can put that £700k to good use elsewhere.

Hardly a glowing recommendation that a bang average Reading are happy to sell cheaply anyway is it?

He's obviously not keen and he's not good enough for it to be worth the risk.

Isn’t this the lad who is a fringe player at reading who only just avoided the drop themselves. What planet is this **** on? Stay and be a reserve in the championship or have a good chance of playing in a starting 11 with a bigger club 1 league down. From what i’ve read about him (because i’d never heard of him before we were linked) the agreed price seems steep and surely there are better alternatives for the price, though to be fair that’s all based on other people’s opinions about readings fourth or fifth choice midfielder.

If he’s not keen to come then **** him, we’ve seen enough of that sort to last us a lifetime.

Rather Grant than this guy by the sounds of all this.
Never heard any more about Leadbitter so can only assume it's not happening, shame if that's the case.

Sunderland's move for Reading midfielder George Evans has fallen through, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Sunderland had agreed a fee with Reading for Evans earlier this week as they looked to bring the former Manchester City youngster to the Stadium of Light.

I know I put a positive spin on it the other day but really the best thing the guy could say about him is that he can run a lot. Forrest Gump of football.

Disappointing. If him and his agent have used us for benchmarking a transfer fee and a wage then I hope we learn from it and see the signs of this next time.

I always respect Keano for what he did with David Nugent - gave him a defined time to accept the offer, then withdrew it

Yeah that review I read made him sound next to useless. I'm not going to cry about it by any means.

David Bellion could run a lot - very fast!!! Nuff said!!

That said - an average championship midfielder should boss this league

Weve currently got Ethan Robson, Mumba, Embleton, Catts and Mcgeouch all of which play CM. I dont think we need to worry too much about covering that area.

Gooch and Honeyman as well, but a couple of injuries and we’ll struggle.

Two games a week, need a big squad to cope with it.

I’d be looking at two more personally as Mumba and Embleton are still just kids.

I wish that the club would issue a statement along the lines of - “ mr Evans dalliance is telling us that he considers a move to us to be only a case of “better than nothing’. This is not the level of commitment that we are looking for, so we have ended our interest “. That would also give a message to other targets
