Of course, there's one striker we could sign who wouldn't need a lot of integrating...

Half time 0-0. By all accounts Le Marchand looking accomplished at his preferred CB position and bailed out Fabri, who was a tad iffy, on more than one occasion. Others who had a good half were Cisse ("if he was a new signing he'd get rave reviews") and Fossey ("standout player"). Unfortunately Fonte yet again failed to impress.

Johansen came came on at half time for Cairney and on 60 minutes the heavy team arrived. The line up was now:

    ........................Fabri...............
    ..Fossey....Odoi.....Ream... S. Sessegnon..
    .........................Cisse....
    .....de la Torre...Seri..Johansen..Kebano..
    .......................Mitrovic..

Thought that might be it but at 0-0 still, the Gaffer obviously wanted more and 15 minutes later we had:

    ........................Fabri...............
    ..Christie...Odoi.....Ream... R. Sessegnon..
    .........................Cisse....
    ........Kamara...Seri..Johansen..Kebano..
    .......................Mitrovic..

Jokanovic would be even less pleased when on the 80th minute we reverted to bad old ways - fiddling back and forth in front of our own box - when Ream (!!) put it on a plate for a Sampdoria player to score. Know it's pre-season and there's a fair bit 'experimenting' and so on, but suspect the 2,117 Fulham fans at Aldershot tonight expected better.

Was at the match last night and was a tad disappointed with our performance
I know there are those who will say that they have got to mould themselves into a
team, but these players have not come from the local park they are top liners.
    My take on the game.
GK so,so distribution supposedly his strong point, weak at times.
F/B we definitely need to address this position
    M/F Cairney, McD very lethargic.
FORWARDS Very little in going for goal MITRO very statuesque little contribution.
I did have a wry smile when an Aldershot supporter said this guy Fossey is good and
was he a costly French, buy, .definitely one for the future, and could resolve one of
    our defensive positions

As the Gaffer has said, the game against Celta Vigo was one of testing the water. Well, starting with the goals - all in the first half - ours by Mitro and Kamara were both excellently taken. The two we conceded - both headers from set pieces - really showed up our weakness at defending in these situations. And it wasn't just at set pieces we looked defensively vulnerable. Le Marchand and Ream had no working relationship with each other at all and indeed Le Marchand looked decidedly uncomfortable (and slow) on the right side.

This has to be a worry for Jokanovic. Odoi is ruled out of the Palace game because of his red in the Final and Mawson is 2-3 weeks away from being even in the reckoning.

Elsewhere, I was also concerned that Cairney appears confused about his role with Seri dominating play in the middle. And not at all happy that Fabri wanders outside his box every time we go forward. Yes, he made a couple of timely interventions outside of the area but my fear is that the speed of breaks in the Prem will catch him out.

Celta were worthy opponents for our last warm up game, so not all negative. Schurrle is fitting in nicely. Kamara really is a beast and would be even better if he would just stop giving away silly fouls, especially in our own half. But bottom line is that there's an awful lot of work to be done in the next week - and selection issues for the Gaffer.

The team in today's 2-2 draw was:

Fabri; Christie (Fossey 79'), Le Marchand, Ream, Sessegnon; Seri, McDonald, Cairney (Johansen 60'); Kamara, Mitrovic (Kebano 79'), Schurrle (Sessegnon 68')

Unused subs: T. Ashby-Hammond, Odoi, Cisse, Fonte

Didn't get to today's game but a nice summary Cottager,in many ways seems like the friendly at Aldershot,
not a great deal of cohesion in defence.

Positives and negatives from todays game against Celta Vigo

Thought Ream, Mitrovic & Kamara played well. Mitrovic nicely turning his marker for both his goal and the assist for Kamara's goal.
Schurrle and Seri played well first half but faded a bit in the 2nd. Like the way Schurrle chases back and helps out. You can see Seri is industrious and with good passing ability. McDonald was his usual sterling self.
Christie was taken to the cleaners by their No11, his lack of concentration was poor, he made no effort being the front man to cut out the cross for the 2nd.
Marchand was ok in the air except for the goals, no partnership with Ream yet, and seems uncomfortable as the Right CB as he seems to be more comfortable with his left foot. Jokanovic has to realise not to play Ryan as a LB to get the best out of him.
I think Parker must have been coaching Cairney as he seems to be trying to do the 'Parker Half circle manoeuvre and getting caught on the ball.
Not sure about Fabri his kicking was hit and miss, and he is going to annoy me if he keeps ignoring AK who was finding space out on the right but never got the ball hit in his direction. Not much reaction from Fabri for their two goals but that was down to our usual defending of freekicks. But he did charge out of his goal wildly a few times, but luckily he got to the ball first.
Celta missed 3 or 4 open chances where they should have scored but didn't.
So to recap Midfield and attack look good when going forward, but back four didn't gel.

It's difficult to make any conclusions after a friendly but was pleased to see Celta Vigo take the game seriously. My gut feeling was that we were good upfront and in midfield generally and a bit vulnerable at the back.

I don't think it is fair to make point of too many of our frailties as it was just a friendly but there did seem a bit of work to do. On the plus side I thought AK looked dangerous and Seri showed promise.

If we can get off to a good start on Saturday it will do us the world of good. I suddenly felt a sense of reality yesterday. Our signings have been good imo but it may take us a little time for the team to settle. Can't wait !
