Can somebody put me out of my misery - my son hasn't helped. He reckons to have heard something about a straight swap involving Jack Payne ! - Why wouldn't Cody go to a championship club ( higher profile football etc ) and one geographically close to his current club ? I wouldn't want to see Jack leave - but we do have an 'abundance' of good midfield players - and we need to address the striker situation.
This would be good business if it could be made to happen PROVIDED there was a sell on clause for Payne (a proportion of any sale fee in the future or a payment after say 50 appearances). Payne and McDonald are similar status, probably good at League 1 level, possibly capable at championship but nowhere near Premiership standard. But there is one difference; McDonald is unlikely to improve but Payne being younger, is likely to improve.
Good news: I was just out on my lunchtime Medway stroll, when I got a bit hungry and went to Quality Kebabs for lunch. Upon walking back down past Priestfield, I saw a car pull up, and who gets out - none other than Cody McDonald, accompanied by a guy in a suit! Cody was holding a book entitled "So, you've signed for a League 2 club...", and asked me for a piece of my kebab, saying "It's hungry work all this contract signing malarky!". Anyway, he then dissappeared into Priestfield, accompanied by Scally who was holding a chequebook. Encouraging signs you have to say! I'm not counting any chickens yet - it could all be coincidence - but maybe just maybe we've got our man!
Gills_Steve - although that quality kebab story of yours may have looked tempting, you was right in saying not to count your chickens... because I think your find Colonel Sanders is saving the quality birds of a feather for his higher league clientele ! Still never mind I'm sure there is still the cheap meat and chips on offer out there for us.
Cody is having medical at Cov, so this thread and all others regarding Cody, can now be put to bed. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/co...y-city-medical-this-lunchtime-92746-29335571/
Done deal, Cody moves to Coventry http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9575900.stm (see 20:35) DOH!

I was going to joke about it, but started my reply at 21:50.... Oh, sod it (hope that language is allowed).. Seems a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted to upgrade the server 2 hours after the transfer window has closed. And we're really suffering on behalf of everyone else because there sure ain't any activity at Priestfield.
Good luck to Cody at Coventry.. His performances last season merits him a shot at Championship level. I think he will do quite well.
