This has got to be his best yet.....

Fleetwood manager Joey Barton has piled the pressure on Sunderland ahead of Saturday's game at the Stadium of Light. The Cod Army moved up to sixth in League One last weekend after recording their first home victory of the season, despite Wes Burns' red card in the first half.

And Barton believes his side have more than enough to defeat the Black Cats, who will be under pressure to perform on home turf.

"On the pitch is where it matters, and I don't see a David v Goliath. If anything, I see us just better than them, man for man," said Barton.

"If anyone doubts our spirit, they just have to watch the Bradford game. To win with ten men, it was special.

"Credit to Jack Ross, he's got the fans coming back to the stadium and the team winning games. It's not easy to turn around a club which has a habit of losing, no matter what resources you have.

"I think Sunderland have more to lose in front of their home fans than we do."

Barton played against Sunderland for Newcastle but insists Saturday's meeting is just another game.

"I've been there as a player and played derbies at Sunderland. It's the same as playing another big club like we did against Bradford.

"The weird thing is that there will be more people in the stadium on Saturday, than there will be in the whole town of Fleetwood!

"We know it will be a good competitive fixture, and one that we're really looking forward to."

I wouldn't expect him to say anything less.

He's right about 1 thing, it'll be a tough game.

He's just saying what we all knew before the season started, all teams coming to us will treat the fixture like a cup final.
Oxford did and started on the front foot where we have started most games pretty poorly by comparison.
Jack Ross has to get them out of the blocks from the first whistle and start dominating teams in this league.
Didn't they win they're last away game 5-0 so this will be no easy ride if we haven't got our game heads on for 90 minutes.
    Over to you Mr Ross.

I know what you mean Tees but we despatched a former Black & White colleague of his on day one (eventually) so a repeat on Saturday would be very nice.

He is right about the pressure being on us to beat them, just like every other home game tbh. Its the same for every team playing at home against anybody surely. Just for the record I hope we blow them away, but know it wont be that easy, a few found that out last home game, this is a tough league so get behind the lads and let them do the talking. <ok>

    No dig there eh?
Absolutely right Tees - He says they're a little better than us which, straight away, heaps a lot of pressure on his own boys! Hope we hammer them, expect a tough game - if we thought Oxford's diving and feigning tactics were bad, wait till we see what Barton has them doing, can guarantee he's watched last week and told his player to do the same or worse!

Nothing other that what I would expect from him.

He'll have them right up for it so we need to be on it from the first minute.

This is definitely our toughest game yet.

They'll be right up for it. Especially the young'uns. Their boss who just played against us in the recent past has publicly told them they're man for man better than us!

To be fair, how many non-Sunderland fans would have a clue who any of our players are? I'd never heard of any of them before we signed them. He could be right for all any of us know.

Yes i agree theres a fair few that people wont know about but players like Ovideo, Loovens, Watmore, Cattermole and Mcgeady are known by anyone with an ounce of football knowledge. Id even go as far as mentioning Jerome Sinclair aswell.

Your right Giacc, We need to come out of the blocks like Usain Bolt and hit them hardfrom the 1st minute. I hope we thrash the living daylights out the f*ckers even tho I would accept a scrappy 1-0 win.

I have a horrible niggly feeling the maggot may just get the win tho.

We really need to score first for a change. I'm expecting a tough test for Jack Ross this weekend. It certainly wont be dull, and we need to be at our best to both keep the run going, and Barton's mouth firmly shut. 1-0 will do as you so rightly say. <ok>

Not wanting to be negative but in a worst case scenario and we lost I sincerely hope the fans keep their sensible heads on. It will be difficult losing to a knobhead but we have had a good start to the season and it will be just a minor knockback. If it happens.

All we need to do is concentrate how we play....if we play well in most games then we will win more than we lose. F*ck the opposition whether it's this knacker or Jose Mourinho....just prepare your team for a battle. I'm more comfortable now that we will do we at home than we have done for a long time. The attitude and passion is there....put this all together then Fleetwood will have a tough 90 mins.

Marcus aye, know what you're saying but if it is a new tactic for them they'll look **** at it and get nowhere. Oxford did what they did very well and the ref was terrible. I'm hoping they try the same, are poor at it, and we blow them away with fit, quality attacking players and a ref who is happy for them to sit on the deck if they want while we play on. We'll see but Oxford had their game plan down to a tee and a ref who let them keep it going longer than they could have dreamed of. Can't see both things happening again like. Barton is a horrible mag egotist so hopefully he is humiliated while we get 3 points, could be tough though like you say but I fancy a 2 goal margin to us

Oxford were awful at it mate - it was embarrassingly obvious their "tactic" but the ref bought it. Every time! I could see from 100+ yards away what they were doing. The little "roll about till he books him" The Cattermole there was so little contact and he'd kicked the ball too far (as the defender had it at his feet before he'd even hit the ground) The difference with Oxford was that they had a referee who bought everything they were selling. The only way it'll work is if we haven't got another ref like last week.
