The thing is, in the general scheme of things these are relatively good times for Saints fans and success for us is staying in the top league for as long as we possibly can, there are lots of more illustrious clubs that are not in the PL.

Flint and Bryan were due to contracts being up and them not signing new ones. Reid was just too much money.

City do have the ambition and a minted owner who seems happy to spend, he owns 3 Bristol based sports teams now and is putting money into all of them. Getting out of the Championship is obviously hard, but wouldn't surprise me to see them up there this year.

I don't think it is a Saints specific thing, more just a general football apathy that seems to be spreading outside the top 6. I have mates who support various PL teams not in the top 6 and the vast majority are very "meh" about their club/football in general at the moment. I think the reality of never being able to really do anything in this league has sunk home for most of the more established teams outside the top 6 so there is a kind of "whats the point?" feeling

Certainly spent more years in our history outside the top flight than in it... took around 80 years to make it for the first time!

Even a lot of top 6 fans are ****ing off to non league.

On the 'whats the point' thing, I wonder how much the Leicester title win influenced that. Even for their fans I'll add.

I think if anything that has kept people interested. If I say to a mate I haven't seen for awhile who starts talking to me about football/Saints "I've lost a lot of interest as being an also ran in the PL is ****" then their instant reaction will be something like "but Leicester won it, so anything is possible"

I knew a guy at uni who was a Leicester fan, had a season ticket from when he was a kid and kept it all the way through uni, travelling home to watch them and went to a fair few aways as well in the time I knew him. When Leicester won the league he was like "thats it, I'm done, we have completed football" and as far as I know hasn't been to a game since and barely watches them on TV or anything. I can understand that, so even being successful kills fans enthusiasm :D

As I have said before .

I no longer go to games , had a season ticket in L1 , the championship and our first season back in the PL .

Most Saints fans / supporters I work with don't actively WANT relegation , but getting relegated would not fuss them .

They say the football , banter with other fans , the places to visit , the general love of the game is what they miss .

The ONLY concern being relegated is possible financial impact on the club .

The results are only a part of it for me personally, Magic. Being in a crowd supporting the club that represents my city is the biggest part for me but i'll admit that I was getting very disillusioned with the whole matchday experience last season. The enthusiasm has returned because the matches are more entertaining and they are being played in a better atmosphere.

Yeah it was never really about the results for me, wouldn't have supported Saints otherwise!

I have only been once this season. I would go more often, but I work every Saturday and Sunday until 1pm, nonstop on my feet, and rushing home to then walk 1.5 miles to the stadium, and back, is now getting a bit much for my feet.
Evening games create a different problem. 7.45 kick offs, ending at almost 10pm, followed by a 25 minute walk, means I can’t drop off very quickly, which then knackers me for a 4am alarm call.
If we were to get relegated, it would bother me mostly because I can now stream matches and stay up with how we are playing, rather than relying on a commentator’s viewpoint.
But, if we are to stay in the Premier League, I want to be supporting a team that performs with passion and looks as if they have a chance against the top teams, as well as rolling a few of our equals over, from time to time.
This season has been more entertaining. Just need a few good results to create a better mentality within the squad.

I get that, but Flint`s contract wasn`t up, and it`s quite telling that he was allowed to go, and wanted to go to another Championship club, and promotion rival. Maybe there was some clause in his contract.

Was only saying same the other day to a Sunderland supporter. Said I’d have no problems playing in Championship but wouldn’t really want to go through the anguish of relegation. Let’s just survive this season & vote for a “league exchange”. Maybe we can sell our place for **** loads of dosh? <laugh>

Yeah that's me too, don't really wanna be in PL but don't wanna watch a relegation season either. After the dust settled in May I was actually quite gutted tbh.
