Klopp is not wiser than me.

Don’t worry MITO. You will soon accept how great Fabinho and Mike Edwards are ;)

Having some technique in tight spaces means you do not have to have the intensity to cover for lack of ball playing abilities. We lost the game due to fine margins as what went in for Sane bounced off for Mane. Score first and they panic. Lovren panicked and needlessly got himself booked and from then on he was a nervous mess. It was obvious before the game where the overload would be. We discussed this yesterday afternoon that they would target TAA and Lovrens side.
We should have done more to reduce the overload as Andy and Virgil marshaled their side brilliantly.

Meh - we lost this game because we weren't as good as City on the day. Tactically we were probably limited by our weakest link (Lovren) - City were always going to press as they had to win and they did this like demons. They also targeted our weakness very effectively. I believe that Klopp chose the midfield that offered the most protection to our defence but if you cannot stop crosses being delivered (TAA and Wijnaldum) and you let arguably the best #9 get ahead of you (Lovren) then it doesn't matter what midfield you put out.

That said, their second goal was a great move but the game was too open - it was exactly this imo that Klopp was trying to avoid when he selected the starting midfield.

City are easily the best champions that we've seen in a decade and we do not have to play them in the league again. The fact that we are still 4 points ahead with 55% of the season gone should be celebrated.

I'm not one of the 'this is our year' types - I still believe that City have too much for the entire season and that to actually go on and win the league, we need our best players to stay fit for the rest of the season or we won't be able to remain consistent enough to win it - look how quickly the league can turn around. That's not me being negative, it's just reality.

I think that Klopp knows this and he nailed it when he simply said 'enjoy the ride'.

Thats fine unitl you see the result.

City's intensity with bernardo silva and david silva and ferandinho was off the charts last night.

They had 63% possession first half and still ran us off the park every time we had it all were could so was 2 or 3 passes and ended up back at keeper. All the tehcnique in the world won't save you if you are not up to them hitting you so fast you have no options available.

IMO this is what klopp knows about keita. he's played him at in effect left wing in 4231 cos he's not up to the speed of the league yet still. Klopp knows this and didn't expose him to the full force of city.

The thing is everything you discussed was about defending. put mane over there to defend. what about attack, the whole picture. thats why klopp picks the team not us. he has to consider all these things and try win the game.

BTW if you didn't see it windy was actually placed to shut that wing off but after about 15mins he started wandering off anywhere.

I am willing to bet in public he will say enjoy the ride but I can guarantee you in the dressing room their objective is to win it. We are still 4 points ahead with on paper good games to build new momentum. We have come through 21 games with one loss. Maintain the same form we should be in there with a massive shout. Damn that Brighton game is so far away.

    Keep trying.

you were lucky yesterday you didn't get thread banned for deliberately wumming the other lads. I just ignored you and then told them to do likewise.

You really don't get how to actually wind a lad up do you. 90% of my responses are just to keep the thing going.

    That’s ^ a fair reflection that.

I thought Pep playing two much more defensive minded full backs negated both sides in the first half. In the second he allowed them more freedom to get forward, and this allowed them to play their more usual game, albeit without the penetration to get behind the fullbacks that the likes of Walker etc offer. It was a hard fought game and City left nothing on the pitch, they knew they HAD to win that game, and they did.

Makes it interesting now, as it’d have been little more than a procession had you won last night imo. The save from Allison at the feet of Aguero at 2-1 was a fabulous piece of goalkeeping btw. I ****ing hope Pickford was watching, as that’s how to play a striker in a one on one.

Thought we made a mistake not bringing on Fabinho earlier and then taking Mané off for Shaqiri, should have been Henderson or Wijnaldum.

Still can't get over how sh!t we were on the ball though, never seen us misplace so many simple passes.

Exactly, better team won on the day. On another day mane might score and the game is totally different.

on another day the ball comes out off post form sane and it ends 1-1.

you are dead right. now city have no further influence on our league season. we have 4 point lead and what we do now is what determines outcome. not just about city.

We can have one game a week for next period. We simply must now decide.... pull pelt at League or do we go for fa cup... My view is right now we've a 9 day break til next league game.

    Salah...
    Firmino...
    Mane..

All must sit out the next game (cup)

We've enough in the other lines to put out a half decent side but we will just have to wrap those 3 in cotton wool now and have them ready for next games

Bolox to the cup, lost all it's appeal in my opinion. Champions league and league is all that counts. An FA cup and League cup only patch over a trophyless period, but mean nothing really.

    I'd agree on mane.

Klopp seems to move him right and stick him glued to wing in games then always subs him.

Mane is only at his best free and every time i've seen klopp do this he's become anonymous.

Jaffa... give credit to city. Nobody seems to want to give the credit for pushing us so hard everywhere.

If I'm honest, it's VvD that I would like to see given a 9 day rest - although I have no idea how! - we can juggle the front 3 with shaq, sturridge and even Origi available. If we are to rest anyone, it will be Firminho. Salah and Mane can manage on half games.

If we'd drawn an easy game at home v league 2 side we would probably stick fabinho in CB and lovren LCB.

    My view is this

    Mingolet
    Clyne Lovren VVD Moreno
    Fabinho
    Lallana Kieta
    Shaqiri
    Sturridge Origi
Or some formation using same names. A windy for example coudl come in and make a 4231 if we wanted and drop origi out.

We need to look back over decemebr and jan now and see that we've put **** load of games through these players and we just need to reset.

I was fuming when i saw that fa cup draw.

    True city played their all yesterday the were really committed. It is the second time I have seen oil backed clubs put their all to get a win against us. It is a testament to the work Klopp has done that you see world class and expensively assembled teams fight like a cup final to beat us. We are that good that if the next game wasn't the FA cup city may have dropped a few levels and probably dropped some points;

I can't believe this attitude. I think most of our fans would be the opposite. We have for decades taken all competitions seriously. We've never IMO dismissed any even the league cup in the past. If we are in a cup competition we have surely to try to win it. Especially if we reach the later stages.

I don't think that we are in a position to start choosing and to say that the Champions League and the title only are good enough for us. It is not like we've been overburdened with trophies lately, have we? :bandit:

    ????

Been to many cup finals? Fantastic occasions. Lots of fans never get to experience them because their clubs don’t make it to a final.
