The fact that we lost comprehensively and that Arnold was our MOTM tells all you need to know. Fair play to Charlton - they were the best side to come here so far this year and in Williams and Taylor have two players who are well above this level. Perhaps the painful to watch second half might do us a favour in the long run if it persuades the club to part with some of the money it has been raking in over the last year and bring in a couple of decent forwards.
There are several problems in our team which have just not been properly addressed. First the lack of pace at centre-back means that Grant is having to play far too deep - we need his passing skills and the base of diamond to move further up the pitch. Docherty is being played too wide so his form has dipped alarmingly and Laurent does not have the ability to play at the forward tip of the diamond. We did still have good control of the midfield for most of the first half with deliveries into the box of varying quality but we have virtually nothing in the box in terms of intelligent movement or shooting power. Neither Holloway or Okenabirhie could be faulted for effort but in terms of quality I doubt if either of them would get into several sides in League 2, let alone League 1.
That means we are very unlikely to score even when we are on top (what percentage of our goals have come from open play this season - it must be less than half) and then we go and concede another awful goal from a set piece. As soon as we tried to chase the game our lack of pace at the back was exposed time and time again. The Board have brought in a novice manager just before halfway through the season and do they now expect him to perform a miracle with no forwards of League 1 quality? If we do not bring in two new forwards of the right quality in this transfer window I think we will go down and waste an opportunity to establish ourselves in this division after the high of last year.

under Rickets we have gone backwards, his signings so far do not inspire confidence.i agree we need forwards but today the defence was shambolic and the supply from the midfield was very poor. tactically we did not adapt as the game was clearly going away from us.

Lets hope Rickets has some decent contacts - yesterday was a real eye -opener with so many players having an off day. We may be able to claw back a bit of pride with a fighting performance at Stoke but really the Blackpool game is probably more important. A loss there (against a team who have just beaten the league leaders) with no league game the week after would probably see us plummet into the relegation zone by February.

so far he has signed a much loved but injury prone former players, a player we wont see till next year but is described as a prospect, if rumours are true a failed trialist who has butter fingure but is a former team mate and friend.

so two friends and a player he used to manage is this the best they can do with half the transfer window gone. Scunthorpe have already signed five players

Lyle Taylor was an example of a striker we could do with at Town. Quite happily running at goal through other players, quite good aerial presence and looked strong. Looking at his history he's had a lot of clubs high and low in the league's including Hereford, which makes me think he's got his problems. However he has never stopped scoring.

It's finding that gem who's on a low and bringing them on.

Hadn't done well at Oxford, however I hope that was down to their setup and that Shrewsbury has what he needs to score a decent amount of goals.

Will give the new striker a chance to prove his worth but it looks to me like there are very tight budget restraints on the manager and we may well not sign anyone else. As for the new keeper I remember him being decent when we played at Coventry a few years back and it is usually a confidence issue with keepers if they have lost their way a bit. Arnold needs some competition as (though he is generally competent) he does not dominate his box enough for me, especially at set-pieces.

I'm hoping we didn't spend too much on Edwards and Ricketts is formulating a deal with a decent player as a signal of intent.

i saw him in two games i cant remember which they were one he was ok but had hardly anything to do the other he was terrible and had a game were he it looked like he was a real butter fingers.

i am disappointing at this signing surley we could find a better keeper . i hope smith makes the grade as a forward but the reports about him from his previous club are hardly a ringing endorsement but he might just need the right club to flourish. the subs bench should be interesting will that make him first choice to come on over Angol ?
if we dont sign any more players bearing in mind they have all come on frees or on loan then it would suggest either funds are a problem or we cant sign the players we need(the latter sounds a bit hollow as Scunthorpe sign 5 players in two weeks)

Blackpool game a real missed opportunity to get a win on our travels , just one point separates us from a relegation place as the gap narrows.

Agree Zen an opportunity missed. We really should've gained three points from that game. At least it looks like we might see more of the 352 rather than the diamond for all couple of games.

we are having a huge clear out i cant remember so many players leaving or going out on loan in January, that saving combined with the money from the stoke game should release some money to sign someone

Vincelot comes in from Crawley (presumably as a replacement for Loft and cover for Grant). Remember him as a decent player but the fact that he has not been a regular in League 2 this season is a bit of a worry.Still no sign of an experienced striker but we live in hope. I hope I am not proved wrong but there are question marks against all of Rickett's signings and the comparison with what Hurst was able to bring in (presumably on much the same sort of budget) is frightening, We all need to roll our sleeves up and support the lads with everything we have to keep our place in League 1.

He does seem to have a good reputation prior to crawley too so it might be a useful addition. However players aged 32+ aren't always the fittest, although it seems fine in the Prem and champ!

i have been disappointed with the players we have signed there is question marks against every one of them , let us hope they will be the answer only time will tell. Holloway went off injured he pulled up holding his hamstring in the reserve game ,Angol was a waste of space ,so we have ferjiri and smith we badly need another forward

the deafening silence on the striker front is alarming ,the heroics in the FA cup will be meaningless if we get relegated

I think we will see a triker, however I believe that it will happen late on, or on the last day.

I'm guessing it will be a loan, but would love to see a permanent signing.
