I was wondering what position the people on this board who actually play football play in? You tend to find that different positions look on the game differently or have certain expertise on players who play in certain positions.

I myself play as the big central midfielder being 6ft and 15 or if needs be dropping into centre back were I am often caught for pace and my surprisingly poor heading ability! Although I am bigger than most players so I'm good for winning the ball back and then picking a pass. I tend to pass more and have only scored one goal in one season so far! With about 3 shots, one of which winning a peno for hand ball!

Would be interesting to hear your playing styles and positions?

Striker, 18 yrs old now but when I was 15-16 I scored 50 goals in one season (24 games) Sadly since then I have been working so not played much. I've only ever scored about 3 goals from outside the box. My game relies heavily on pace and finishing! Also played quite a few games as an attacking mid or winger.

When i play competitive it's in the back line. I'm a versatile defender with a knack for perfectly timed sliding tackles. I should really start making my way to Arsenal...

Not bad at all, strikers can frustrate me they tend to get a lot of glory for a short sprint and an easy finish! As opposed to a defender who makes one mistake and is bollocked or a centre mid who runs his ass off but doesn't win one tackle! Saying that I'd jump at the chance to play upfront!

When I did play competitively I don't think there was a position I didn't play in except one, goalkeeper. I stopped playing 90 minute football in my late 20's and did a few tournaments in 5-a-side matches. Then I stopped and did something else. Sailing and swimming. Thought about racing motorcycles for a nanosecond, but that's another story.

I've had a nomadic career so far, moving from CB to GK, then back to CB, then Winger as I developed a tad of pace, then RB as I lost that pace, now CM. Played for 3 different clubs.

I'm not that tall (5'11andahalf") but I'm well built so I make use of what strength I have and put in some crunching challenges to break up play. I like to think of myself as a Schneiderlin-esque playmaker as I tend to sit deep with the odd run forward, but my long ball pings aren't up to scratch yet! Try to keep things tidy in the centre and spread play, that's my job.

Though I haven't played since late May as I injured my knee during the run-in last season. Hoping to re-kindle my career at Chichester Uni.

If I'm messing about, I'd usually play as a winger or a striker. I could cross the ball, although I never had pace or skill. I do have accuracy and composure which gets me a few cheeky goals :p I seem to be a better centre mid though, more of a ball winner I'd say. Technique doesn't happen with me, I just tackle <laugh>

I'd like to think of myself as more of a thinking, play-reading player rather than a flair player <ok>

I played in most positions over the years. Started as a kid in midfield, usually on the left and when got to youth football played at left back (probably best position). Had to play upfront in a trial and it worked, so played as a striker for a bit as an AP. Then spent a few years playing everywhere across midfield and both full back positions in non league, before ending up back up front in my mid twenties. Stopped playing decent level at 29 as moved with job. I even played one game in goal in an FA trophy match!

Now I'm just old, knackered and like to sit there mumbling about how I wished I'd made it.

    Well, well, well.

I started in goal (because no one else would offer to go in goal so I did)

I then moved to RB when we got a half decent keeper, then up to RM, although I was used as a striker most of the time, due to my height.

We changed manager last year and he has made me a CM, sitting deep with a fleeting run occasionally, passing is probably my strongest asset alongside crossing. I have a good eye for a pass and play some cutting balls, sometimes I'm not the fastest anymore.

Now do a fair bit of refereeing, it pays!

Goalie - 6 ft 2 and a distinct lack of pace meant that it was always going to be in goal that I found my home!

Useful for bringing a high ball under control, although this can lead to nipple soreness. I've heard.

They were one of the reasons I had such a deft touch. Shame they're disappearing with age. Anyone got any tips on how to make them grow?? I've heard muffins are alright.

That's only if you have very large moobs, coupled with sweat.

Well, he is a fat bastard!! I'll never forget him falling on his fat arse after tripping over his own feet <3

But on topic, I've never played 11 a side, played 5 a side for a while and even though there's not really positions, I stayed at the back because I was too lazy to run forward, and I'm appalling at anything to do with ball control. Scored 3 goals overall, which is ridiculous considering how much we played! JDub will vouch for how good two of them were though (no mentioning the calamitous first ;))
