RIP to the BBC presenter and broadcaster, Rev Ruth Scott, at only 60. Many may remember Ruth from her regular Pause for Thought presenting on both Terry Wogan and Chris Evans Radio 2 breakfast shows, a very inspirational lady, not the ram religion down the throat type! Chris Evans did an excellent live interview/podcast from Ruth's hospital bed a few weeks ago. As I said, quite inspiring. RIP Ruth Scott.
The Colour Of Spring is certainly one of my favourite ever albums, and that from a decade that I'm not really keen on. RIP.
Spirit of Eden and Colour of Spring are absolute masterpieces. I used to work with Talk Talk's A&R guy at Warner a couple of years ago. I heard that Mark was a top, top guy. Big football fan too.
Talk Talk are definitely one of my favourite bands; Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock being huge influential records and essentially creating 'post-rock' and influencing acts like Mogwai, Slint, Sigur Rós, Radiohead and Godspeed You! Black Emperor among countless others. Also, fair play to Mark for essentially saying **** you to the music business and making music he wanted to, instead of what record companies wanted him to make. Such sad news. RIP
I remember liking Spirit of Eden but the earlier It's My Life album is also good. A live album recorded in 86 is ok too. It's My Life has a classic video, which references the lives of animals (contrasting them captured and in the wild, squiggles over mouths silencing them turning into a bird symbol suggesting freedom). The self titled earlier song from 82 is also full of energy
Andy Anderson—former drummer for The Cure—has died. He was 68 years old. Anderson passed away following a battle with terminal cancer, a prognosis that he publicly revealed in a Facebook post earlier this month. “No boo-hooing here, just be positive,” he wrote. “For me, it’s just another life experience and hurdle, that one has to make, yet another choice in life. Be cool, I most definitely am and positive about the situation.” Anderson reportedly died at home surrounded by friends. please log in to view this image
