Tell me about it. I'd say 90% of any book sales Hull City related would go through the club shops and club website so if they decided not to stock your book, for what ever reasons, your chances of breaking even are seriously dented.
    I know from experience.
First book stocked, and sold out within two months and the club made a few quid commission out of it.
Second book, 'erm, it contains material we cannot be seen to be endorsing'......So sorry pal.( they were bringing their own out on the same subject at twice the price of mine)
But they were stocking non football/ non Hull City related books containing all sorts of wrong doings at the time, but no-one was interested in that authors views.
For what it's worth, I hope Richards book does well and I was honoured to be asked to contribute but £20 plus ? That's a lot of money for a book.
I was advised to pitch the price at the value of your average book token which was around the £10 mark, anything above that and people think twice, put it down and walk way.

At present, I don't know. The book only makes passing reference to the Allams. I think they are literally mentioned twice in the epilogue, so there should be nothing in there to upset them. I've deliberately left the book at the end of the 2009-2010 so that I didn't have to cover all of the fallout from their policies. The book is for the most part a celebration of a wonderful time.

That said, I'm still trying to work out the extent to which the book is likely to be available from any kind of shop, given I'm having to go down the Amazon route. I'm hoping to get some into Waterstone's in town centre, and if the club shop will take some (and it means we're likely to raise more money for Dove House by having them in there) then I'll try. I'll let people know on here when these decisions are made.

Waterstones in Hull were excellent. But stay clear of WH Smith don't get involved, it's not worth the hassle.

Thanks for the advice. I've already spoken to Waterstone's and they've been very supportive and reassuring. I know they're a national chain, but they seem so community minded there. Re: your comments about the price above, it's something I'm labouring on a lot (hence asking the questions). Ultimately, I'll make the price as cheap as I can based around Amazon's pricing policy. I'm hoping that the calibre of contributors I've got (including your good self) will persuade people to part with a bit more money than they might do otherwise, but I will also take on your sage advice. Thank you!

I say whenever we're up town we pop into Waterstones and enquire about your book.

They'll soon get it in <ok>

After they have departed, and you have written your next book, 'The Allam Years - Thankfully Over' will be your biggest seller!

I suspect I'd need a publishing house behind me with vast legal resources before I could take that on!

Maybe I'm tight but don't think Ive ever paid 20 quid for a book . I would this one because I can see how much effort you have gone too etc , and the charity aspect . But I think it would put a lot of people off to be honest

I'm the same - my 'paper' book collection is mostly from charity shops and the various hotels that I've stayed in; this last couple of years though I've gotten more into audio books, I thought the concept was a bit meh at first but, once I'd downloaded one and listened to it while I was walking, riding my mountain bike or even surfing the net I've really enjoyed them ...... I subscribe to a couple of Newsgroups and get them at a next to nowt price.

Thanks Richard, looking back over those clips I think Ashbee's goal at Yeovil was the second most important and emotional goal in our history after Deano's of course.

Thank you. This gets covered a lot in the book. Many people - including me - have happier immediate memories of the Yeovil goal. When that went in I knew we were going to be celebrating my first ever proper Hull City promotion (I started as a regular in about 86/87). When Deano's goal went in, after 10 seconds or so I felt an all-consuming sickness, as we had it all to throw away. That didn't leave until Wayne Brown jumped on Boaz's back. Looking back now, that may seem weird. I also think with some goals, they make you so happy and mean so much to you that you can't really pick one over the other. Ash's goal ended a nightmare that had lasted over a decade. Deano's goal was our wildest dreams. Both mean the world to me.

Some great memories within that promo video! Are you still looking at Mr Chu's as the venue for the book launch Richard, and has a date been set?
