I think its time to leave, as I have nothing to add to the basics of this site, and that is the health of Hull City AFC. My preference is for the Boothferry Park days, that is without question, even though the KCOM stadium devotees achieved far more than us oldies ever did. I don't go to the KCOM now, not because of the current situation as I do not understand it all other than the Allam’s have gone from heroes to villains. The other fraught contention is the belief that Hull has been **** on since WW2 by those in Whitehall. My latest contention is Castle Street, whilst London has billions for upgrades, we struggle with a few million scattered here and there to keep us quiet. I travel extensively and see progress in other cities whilst Hull languishes in the backwaters, yet the excuses abound. It's private investment in London, maybe it is but why? Part of the reason is that we have one major road into Hull, not even a motorway all the way, and the same road out. One rail track in one out, we are in the wrong location all the time. I have a deep love of Hull, period, despite its many downsides, and they are many, I think it’s a great place that could be even better with more investment, but that ain’t going to happen from central government. My rabbiting on about certain projects that never seem to get done, or if they do it is with a mountain to climb, is because of such sentiments and frustration. The comments that I have attracted are only par for the course, no matter who they are from, even though I don’t agree with many of them. But it wasn't always thus as photographs on Facebook and in the local library books that I have been looking up of late, show. My spats with OLM have surfaced now and again, but he has advantages that I don’t possess, a business in London for a start, but I believe that London is sucking the life blood out of the rest of the UK. Its geographical location makes it the centre of everything, unless you are a real Northern Powerhouse like Liverpool/Manchester/Leeds. There are other issues with this site that do not merit my time, we all have our own opinions do we not? Age has a lot to do with it and as I remember Hull as a city buzzing with life as there was so much going on. Throughout the late 50’s/60’s/70’s/ and 80’s when family life for me changed things, Hull was one place going places. As family life took its course Hull became a backwater once more, so the family life took over from the dereliction of the social life in the centre of Hull. Bailey’s/Mecca/Locarno/L.A’s/City Hall/Bali Hai/Scamps/Henry’s/Gondola/Sombreo/not to mention the many places on the periphery of Hull that had things going on. I have only scratched the surface as me and my mates ventured to Brid/Scarborough/York/Leeds and beyond for a change. Now, like Hull City in a way, there is nothing, dead as a dodo, but if you are not of a certain age you would not know what I am talking about, I accept that. Welly is still on the go, and I don’t doubt some other place people go too that I know not, but of course its not for me. OLM is a great Mod and seems to have info not available to us mere members, so hang on to him, even though he does live out in the Caves somewhere lol. Not sure what happens now, but I will stop my half a penny worth, as its just not worth half a penny, one of two people have PM’d me, and they know who they are and many thanks for that. But I have more to channel my depleted energy levels towards, no least my grandchildren, well my younger ones. Silly stupid things like taking my granddaughter to Withernsea last week, it was blowing a gale but sunny and dry. Withernsea? Yes, she revelled in the ability to run around, like we did 60 year previous, on the sand, throw pebbles in the oncoming tide. Then go in café and watch her devour a plate of chip then an ice cream with joy, it was so much fun for me as well. No internet, no Galaxy tablet, no computer at all, just simple pleasures like I enjoyed so much as a kid. Yes history repeating itself and this time around I am enjoying it so much more, enjoy your discussions folks, I’m sure you will. Not sure what happens now, maybe my account will be deleted without any interaction from me, whatever this is a goodbye to all, I have enjoyed the ride.
There are two railways into and out of Hull. Not knowing that basic fact does somewhat undermine the rest of that flounce.
Good post. No google spin, no armchair manager petulance, but plenty of conviction, experience and emotion. Castle St: vote **** get ****.If only we'd had, say, a deputy PM at some stage who could have got us some meaningful inward investment...oh No doubt this post will be pulled but it is what it is
Interesting post. Of course, it's up to you what you choose, but from reading that, the forum would be richer if you stay on board. Remember, the discourse, the disagreements, differences in opinion are the good bits too: we learn through dialogue. But agree, if this consumes too much energy, then needs need to be prioritised. Good luck.
Like I have said before sometimes Hulls biggest enemy itself is it's own people ! People have it ingrained in them from an early age about the negativity of the place and you grow up with it being the norm .
You go on any of these football forums and two of the recurring themes are 'this must be the most negative town/city/ set of fans in the country', and 'the manager is garbage and is clueless tactically'. Plew sa chonge......
It's obviously a matter of opinion as to who is a great moderator. And yes some do like to say they have inside information and can get complimentary tickets or whatever. I wish I had been able to get to the seaside more, I've nothing against small places like Withernsea or Hornsea either, fewer people about is a plus I would have thought. The investment issue has been brought up many times and I'm sure most agree. To say it's dead as a dodo though is to ignore all those living there.
With the demographics highlighted by the recent age survey and natural attritional rates can we afford to loose our older contributors? Also the 'kids' tend to use Snapchat and Instagram ( & stuff they wont tell me about) this place could end up like CI and Facebook. Back to the OP enjoy your retirement
Read the first paragraph, then didn't bother. Memo to self: When you have less time read the rest of the 'me me me, I won't be back' (back anon though) post. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I can't be arsed to read refs long post. But no point leaving just read if you want to now and again . Keeps you in touch with what's happening at city and in hull. And we could probably sort the world out if they let us
