Eddie Howe's record at Bournemouth is excellent, his record at Burnley was at best average. Some managers just perform well at a special club to them.
Eddie Howe was at Burnley for one season and has turned a very small club with 10,000 gates into Premier league regulars. How is that comparable to Powell who was fired by Charlton with us bottom of the league, fired by Huddersfield with them bottom of the league, and who has now guided Southend to a magnificent 20th place in League One ? Apart from one fluke season when he had the Jenkinson money, Powell has consistently proved at 3 clubs that he is a poor manager. And to think the wallys on Cardigan Life were tipping him as a Spurs manager
Eddie Howe had zero effect on Burnley's (where he was distinctly average at best) transformation into a Premiership Club which is purely down to Dyche Neither Charlton or Huddersfield were at the bottom of the league when Chris Powell was sacked and there was a general surprise in the media at his sacking from both clubs. At Southend he is having a poor run at present granted but a couple of good wins will see him finish safely mid table.
I can't understand why some people think that anybody who leaves the Club is an enemy? Scott Parker is a case in point, we got our (at the time) highest ever transfer fee for him and he set up his new family for life with his contract at Chelsea, if any of us were offered a three or four fold increase in our salaries we would take it right so why not footballers? It seems with certain of our fan base this now extends to (in recent times) our most successful Manager, Sir Chris, who set record after record with an investment of under £1m, he did not buy success in L1 he earnt it by sheer hard work... remember most of the clubs challenging us in L1 that season are either in the Prem now (Bournemouth & Huddersfield) or are Championship regulars (Sheffield Wed & Sheffield Utd) .. Anybody with an ounce of sense offered a massive pay rise at another organisation will take it … even our Moderator would be buying a red tie and learning the words to 'the red flag' if offered enough money …. here's a start @Royston Vasey .. The people's flag is deepest red It shrouded oft our martyred dead And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold Their hearts' blood dyed to every fold
please log in to view this image Pete O'Rourke@SportsPeteO Chris Powell is on the verge of leaving Southend. #shrimpers #southendfc I will always be grateful to Chris Powell, not Sir, for winning us the Div1 championship. Whoever picked players like Stephens, Holland, Wright- Phillips, etc deserves a lot of credit. But there is no way in the world I would want him back as manager.
If Powell does leave Southend and if Bowyer doesn’t sign a new contract, stand by for the inevitable calls ... Would Powell work for Duchatelet again
No, I shouldn't think so. There would be a strange symmetry to it though, if Charlton got promoted, Bowyer left, and RD re-appointed Powell. It would be as though the last 5 years had never happened...Not.
Rochdale's win today increases the pressure on Sarfend. Bowjacko hasn't been offered a new contract for a very good reason.
Luton need a new manager next season. Maybe Bowyer and Jackson could go there, and we can get SCP back
Powell is being painfully exposed again as a very average manager. I would have thought the evidence is indisputable now ? It’s one thing to be lapped at Huddersfield by David Wagner, but Powell has been outclassed at Southend by his predecessor Fake Tan Phil.
Why would we want Powell back when he is taking Southend into the Second division? In case you hadn’t noticed @lardiman we are in a play off position. I really don’t understand this Powell love in.
Chiefly, just to annoy the Charlton fans who don't like him. We didn't need the play-offs when he was in charge. We ripped this league apart.
