I seem to remember there was, but appears that things have turned out okay, as all the age groups of England teams have done well. At least the success of the England teams has silenced the critics.
We've all been critics before !! I certainly have I don't mind admitting Hopefully they and I can be proved wrong in Portugal in June !!
Pitches look superb I’ve only played on the 5 a side one though and there was something wrong with the surface...it made my feet move really slowly and stopped me turning round fast too
I know the feeling I stopped playing eleven a side at 36, as it was starting to feel like I was playing in treacle.
Tried to look, couldn’t find a thread on southgates appointment (the search on this forum is ****e and google doesn’t easily pull results like it used to). There’s a lot of grumbling about him spread over various threads tho, the one about BFS getting the sack, vs Slovenia in particular then several others. Myself included. My reaction to Southgate ruling himself out of the job was “Always loved Southgate, ****ing great bloke”. Presumably after dishing out a load of criticism earlier in the thread
This thread from just after Woy left suggests everyone who brought up Southgate thought it was a **** choice, including myself I suggested Slaven Bilic, Jugen Klinsmann or Glen Hoddle ffs. https://not606.com/threads/next-england-manager.331775/ Incredibly happy to be wrong about Southgate, it's been ace seeing this team develop under his guidance and he was the 100% best choice for the job. EDIT: This post by me What a ****ing idiot.
I asked her not long after that post, she turned it down unfortunately. She wanted the France job instead. Which is fair enough, as she is French.
Some were far worse than you. Though, unlike you they won't admit it, please log in to view this image originallambrettamanMod Moderator Staff Member Joined: Jan 24, 2011 Messages: 90,235 Likes Received: 33,600 ↑ Gareth Southgate fits the FA,s bill. Nice guy, diplomatic. and looks good in a suit. Did win a euro comp with the under 21,s this year. If its him and knowing the FA it will be then I would be happy with Shearer in there to sort the attack, and attacking ideas out Southgate is the least inspiring of all the options. #62 originallambrettaman, Jun 28, 2016 I'd far rather have Beckham than Southgate, he'd command the respect of the players and he's as passionate about England as anyone. #83 originallambrettaman, Jun 28, 2016 Won't say who agreed with the second one. Not me though.
Seems fairly reasonable to me, he wasn't high up most peoples lists and it's hardly a slaughtering is it? He's proven himself a far better appointment than most of us expected. Well done to him.
The least inspiring candidate is hardly a ringing endorsnent, is it? It indicates you would rather have had any of the other candidates. Preferring Beckham was risible.
Just had a glance at that thread, the first quote you've put up wasn't even me. The Beckham comment wasn't serious, he's not even a manager, never mind someone who'd be in the running as an England manger. It seems it was Guus Hiddink for me at the time.
I was putting up your reply, which was that Southgate was the least inspired option. The old I wasn't serious one, eh. Didn't read you advocating Hiddink. Must have missed that one when flicking through the thread.
I found you saying Southgate was the least inspiring option. And that you would rather have Beckham because of his passion. Can you point me to your post advocating Hiddink to save wading through. Or is that what wasn't there?
