I think it’s a decent idea. The players earn millions, they can go out and drink booze after the game.

That comment about “everybody being offended” is lame as well. It isn’t about offence.

Most things that offend people today offended people 30 years ago. The difference is, people won’t tolerate some of the stuff being said today and are more willing to speak up about it. 30 years ago you could call somebody a puff in mainstream media and it wouldn’t matter, obviously that’s a problem. Ditto the N word. You get these mithering posts about “Facebook taking down this post” or “does my flag offend you? Tough”. It’s all bollocks cooked up by people who can’t adapt to modern society, because the things they took joy from saying are now unacceptable and they’re either embarrassed about it or they genuinely lack understanding of why certain things cause these problems.

From 78, Hull's top band at the time, produced by Mick Ronson.

The point is no Muslim players have asked for this. It is the middle class players virtue signalling on their behalf. No one is asking them to drink it.No Muslim player has said the thought of someone spraying champagne about has made them thinking of leaving the league in this country and playing in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or elsewhere where alcohol is banned.
I am sure there have been teetotallers players in the past, in fact there were some very famous ones. And Methodists who disapprove of alcohol. No one got offended on their behalf. Should we ban the sale of pork pies and sausage rolls at Wembley so as not to offend Muslims? Or Jews? Or vegetarians and vegans?

Pork pies and sausage rolls aren't thrown at the players when celebrating though are they. Muslim players haven't asked for it, but why should they? There are examples of Muslim players standing to one side during champagne celebrations - the one which springs immediately to mind is Moeen Ali in the cricket, it's no skin off anyone's nose to replace the champagne with something else that means some players don't feel left out of the celebrations, what is wrong with any of this!

Methodists don’t all avoid alcohol though, or all disapprove of it even.
Some are teetotal but others just advocate drinking responsibly (as I do...)

What is wrong is we are kowtowing to one group. Even though they haven't asked for it. No consideration in many Muslim countries for people working or holidaying there who fancy a pork pie and a pint.
Maybe we should play all games on a Sunday instead of a Saturday so Orthodox Jews aren't left out?

The Premier League stopped giving out champagne to the man of the match in 2012 after Yaya Toure refused it on religious grounds.

That I can see the point of. Not much of a prize if you can't use it. But the majority of people involved in a Cup Final can. Someone who doesn't want champagne because of religious reason or being a teetotaler can have something else.

I wonder if Bobby Moore ever regretted not having champagne poured over him on the pitch when England won the World Cup. Somehow I doubt it.

You can bet he was drinking some in the dressing room. Never happened at World Cups anyway.

It would obviously better if the Man of the Match award was inclusive to all. Maybe an engraved plaque & a donation to a charity selected by the winner.

Didn't happened at FA Cup Finals either. What he did in the dressing room is irrelevant as you well know.
