I think they'll win the playoffs, they weren't even trying against Donny.

 

I don't disagree with the bankrolled team bit, but Salford's average attendance was the 5th best in the league so wasn't that bad. It will also be higher next year and higher than a lot of teams in that division. Fylde had the 10th best average attendance, again not the worst.

Salford have spent quite a bit of money, but they have tried to improve the infrastructure and spending a lot on their youth side and academy now.

 

I don't disagree with the vanity project, but if they want to spend their money on a football team building the infrastructure in a part of Salford that is desperately in need of investment why not. Next year they will be in League Two I imagine averaging 3k in support, not bad for 'pub' team. I assume you aren't referring to other National League or League Two teams as pub teams? It wasn't so long ago we nearly ended up there.

 

So, there should be a closed shop with no upstarts allowed to crash the party? What are the likes of Chelsea and Man City other than the vanity projects of multi millionaires. And other clubs. Would Wolves, Leicester and Bournemouth have gone up and done so well without the backing of multimillionaires?
A pity more ex players don't put money into local sides or businessmen back teams like Fylde.

 

I remember accusations we had got promotion from the bottom tier people saying we had done it by throwing money at it, even though Northampton spent more money than we did.

 

With 3k crowds they may well be constricted by FFP next season (is it still 60% of income on wages?).The novelty will soon wear off for the crowds when they can’t buy their way up the league.

My first words on the subject stated they where bankrolled. Which may I add I have no issue with whatsoever.

 

I believe that they are restricted to 60%, but Gary Neville did an interview stating this is exactly why they recruited so heavily last year, as they where able to build a team a year in advance on lower wages than if they tried to recruit the same players now. I actually think the lack of success at United will help them massively attract crowds. The novelty of all 6 ex United players owning them is still going. I play for a cricket team in that area and I know 3 more of them will be season ticket holders next year (All United fans).

 

Problem for them is Salford is a rugby city. Man Utd even pinched their nickname off them.

 

Prices will need to rise significantly. Based on last season’s prices , 3k crowds & assuming Rooney’s 4k/wk is correct that’d be around 50% of ticket income spoken for.

Everyone will have to buy 3 shirts a week.

 

I suspect Graham Alexander isn't the lowest paid manager either in that division.

All the best to them, they have invested and are getting a return of sorts on the pitch. If a similar situation was happening at City I'm sure nobody would be complaining.

 

Graham Alexander has done a good job to be fair, Scunny should never have sacked him IMO. Both playing in the same division now.

 

Well, we didn't when AP took over and we were buying players left, right and centre. Didn't when we bought Waggy, Houghton and Butler for what were huge sums for a Division 3 club at the time either.

 

The main problem with Salford isn't the fact they've been bankrolled (though that is a little sad to watch, though at the same time everyone including myself was happy Man City won the PL), it's the fact they'll be treated like TWS or Frank Lampard's Derby County - they'll be media darlings and will dominate the TV schedules and be given way more coverage than any other club in that division, regardless of what they do.

 

Stockport. County was one league above Scarborough last season ( national League North )

They got gates crowds of over 5,000 even over 6,000 at times and got great away support

They got promoted to the national League

That's one club that could hold there own in a higher league.

Anyway back to SALFORD

I hope SALFORD can attract locals who maybe follow the Manchester clubs.

Don't know IF they have a standing area at Salford. But I think it can be a great positive for clubs that do.

 

So we are basing our dislike on something that might happen?

 

That isn't the problem with Salford, it is the problem with the media. Though it is unsurprising given the names connected with Salford compared to other clubs in the division.
