Sadly this has led to some clubs hovering around their best prospect, Luca Connell ...wait, we're one of the clubs doing that?
Before today, I had no problem with Brighton. After hearing of the decision to sack Chris Hughton, I now hope they go down and never come back up.
Has the Brighton football been so dour because of Chrissy, or because of their financial constraints on improving the squad ??
League One is a notoriously tricky league. Very, very competitive and usually not much separating the entire middle 16 teams. I reckon this is the beginning of the end for them. To start on -12 means they'll have to win 4 more games than anyone else and even the worst team in the league (Bradford) managed to win 11 (almost a quarter of their games. The other Football League bottom sides managed 9, 5 and 3). League 2 beckons. This is the club that finished above us in 03-04 and 04-05.
The latter I'd say. Hughton's had to work with what he's got, luckily for him he's got a good keeper and a pair of CBs who work excellently together which often allowed him to be defensively sound. A couple of top sides could do a lot worse than signing Dunk and Duffy if CB is an area of their squad that needs improving (Arsenal being one, Utd possibly another). When you look at the rest of the squad, there's not a single a player anyone in the top ten would realistically take a look at.
They've got 42 players out on loan including the likes of Morata, Batshuayi, Bakayoko , Zouma and Abrahams ( excuse spelling )
Most of those aren't good enough or unproven. Hazard massively carried Chelsea this season, without him and the inability to sign anyone, I can see them struggling badly. Azpi, Rudiger and Kante are the only top players left in that squad.
Ironic isn't it! All I read in the English media are articles and comments on how wonderful Man City are. It takes a German newspaper to report on their breaking of FFP. Uefa are to consider banning them from the CL. Meantime Spurs did it for them I have no respect for City at all, to me their winning of the league is a sad day for football. Relegate them to league 4.
As I have repeatedly said, separate respect for the performance of their squad these past two seasons from the contempt for them being a state-sponsored Sugga Daddy FC.
If citeh are banned from Europe for multi seasons, I understand the recommendation is a minimum of one season, the the Premier League should give them a points deduction for each of the seasons as absence from European competition will be an advantage in the league, a transfer ban is not enough.
His Norwich side were just as guilty of dour football when faced with adversity The real problem they had this season was, Bissouma aside, none of their summer signings did much - notably Jahanbakhsh, who scored 0 goals after a £25m outlay
I read somewhere 5th highest net spend, so they were trying to push on and didn't. There is a lesson there, only buy players that can improve the team.
Azpilicueta has fallen off this season as well. They probably would have been better off in the Europa League so they could sack it off and concentrate on the league.
Why? I quite like Brighton and they clearly feel Hughton is not going to take them further so why retain him? They nearly got relegated and that would cost £100m. He has had nearly 5 years - done pretty well but not shown he is likely to do better. If the club believe they can get a better manager why wouldn't they?
Let's wait and see whether the replacement is better. Hughton does a good job wherever he goes and possibly he is doing the best job possible with the squad that he has. Recruitment has been the issue, so my judgement would be based on whether he has a say in that.
