patently obviously treble. it is utterly stupid to even suggest it... one single solitary season of high net spend. one. after years if hardly any and after a record years actual profit to back it. where we bought 3 players. if Liverpool won something you mancs would be whining and bleating cos you couldnt take it cos you're all spoiled and can't take your clubs fall. you are quite happy for now to see your noisy neighbours win not us but once they get close to your records you won't be so smug about anyone challenging them
Both draws were kind to city, they never met any of the top six, except Chelsea in the league cup final.
If you speak to your fellow posters on here MITO you'll realise I've paid enough kudos to Livpl on the PL Board and went as far as to say I preferred if they won it to City and I quote "because you had more about your game". It was mainly because of the football on the pitch nothing to do with spending. And you've misread what I've posted. I didn't mention your spend. I was making the distinction here - what is it that ppl have a problem with - their dominance? or their spend? Because at the end of the day what difference does it make to a lack of competition in English football if a club does it through a massive spend or without, IF we're saying a club's dominance is bad for the rest of league? Does the overall point of a lack of competition in that news paper article diminish if a team dominates without the same spend?
Maybe because most other top six sides thought it was beneath them to try to win it. When a team doesn't try because they want to concentrate on other things they can't really complain about the team that wins it.
me personally spending what they haven't earned, or how the feck have they earnt what they have if they are in the limits of the ffp. something seriously dodgy there. never had a problem with utd spending big as it was done on merit and earnt, fecking hurt obviously, but earnt the right way, same as arsenal, we had a rivalry with everton that was similar and done on merit. i don't like plastic clubs like chelsea and city, simple.
The first problem is their spending is in violation of FFP, so it's just a form of cheating. Secondly their spending is completely out of proportion to all other clubs and it would be ridiculous to even compare. I understand your point about dominance, but if a club got to a position of such dominance in a way that was unambiguously fair then people would have a lot more respect for it. They would also appreciate it while it lasted knowing that football naturally moves in cycles. With City there is no concept of fair, and there is no concept of natural. We know that if the authorities don't hold them to account that all that will happen is when one world class player or manager leaves they will simply spend any amount of money to fix it. Finally there is the knowledge that their money comes not just from outside football, but directly from human rights violators.
I hear you bro, me neither. But they're not all that. I don't find their football all that attractive either. Painting by numbers imo. It's the lack of quality in the rest (with the exception of Livpl tbf but depth in the squad needed) which needs to improve. I mean no disrespect to the rest of the PL, but we firstly need to get to a point where the league comes down largely to the Top 6 mini-league. We're nowhere near that while the likes of Arsenal are losing away at Southampton and drawing away to Brighton, Spurs collapsing like a sack of spuds half way through the season, United drawing at home to Burnley, losing away at West Ham etc - far too many games where the top 4-6 teams have been ****. Then teams like Wolves, Everton and Leicester can make a real difference as well, because as well as the mini Top 6 league these clubs results against the Top 4 really matter. So imo, I think it's up to the others to catch up and it's not really City that's the problem here. As for Liverpool strength in depth. City can only improve so far before their squad is either saturated or past its peak. They're lucky to have Pep as well.
fair enough.... so. a) it's not their dominance. all sides rise and fall it's only a question of when. b) its when it's patently and transparently build on not only sand but on corrupt actions and unrepentant breaching of the poor rules left to stop such actions. c) last year was the same and the same was said. both psg and city are the same as was Chelsea in their own way
Chelsea's are only in decline now because the UK and Russian governments have a new cold war and Putin disappeared Abramovich https://www.football365.com/news/should-we-divorce-man-city-from-human-rights-abuses "City’s owner is a member of a royal family that runs a country which is happy to make being gay punishable by jail, by being flogged, beaten, tortured or by plain old death. Murdered by the state for being gay; how do you get that past the Fit and Proper Person’s test? Surely no amount of investment cleans that up?"
Agree with that. All of it is spot on and they need to be held to account. Trouble is though it'll be investigated, charged, appeal, then court of arbitration and we'll see a result MAYBE in the 2021-22 season if we're lucky. In the mean time the rest of the clubs have to fight their own battles and end them. I was far more concerned when Abramovich came along because it was blatant buying success and I couldn't see an end. But after their initial dominance they collapsed when Mourinho went full spam, so I'm not worried looking at City. They are one Champions League, and therefore one manager away from losing that dominance.
true. Chelsea have suffered through disinterest but they were most successful team in last 10 year's simply due to having massive net spend, going through managers on a whim and of course selling the hordes of players they have on loan. Chelsea could rise again. As for city's owners... their money is everywhere.
Aye but would you say Chelsea have dominated the league in the last 10 years? I don't, because the others caught up. They didn't just lose interest, others got better. Also, how long have City had serious amounts of money... 10-12 years. It took them until Pep arrived to get to this point. And they still cant make a CL final. They really aren't as untouchable as ppl think imo.
Mostly cheslea have self inflicted wounds. They are most successful over all but have ****ed themselves up. City's rise has also slightly stunted them. With respect to city's money. They have had it but the Thai owner was a false dawn with extremely late buy in then Hughes was dispatched and then the owner was arrested back home.. city have won les than they should actually have due to the usual lack of knowledge. The arabs however have spent huge huge money on hiring people who do know and spent unlimited fund on facilities and have clearly faked sponsorship deals. The are a rolling stone that will gather pace unless it can be stabilised and made at least to function as a business not a plaything
I have no problem at all with their spend or their dominance. What I have an issue with is their lucky team cup draws (pure jealousy)and their ability to get away with niggly fouls which I personally believe does exist (right there with Ole) but very much a personal opinion.
Their fouling is based on the belief that refs don't give cards cos they get hammered if they give too many or reds. They rarely if ever go to ground so they totally eliminate the dangerous play and violent conduct risks. They push, pull shirts, drag you down, cut across a run and block or just a sneaky trip as fast as possible as far away from goal as possible. There's a reason why guardiola goes apeshit when it's brought up, he knows it's his policy and he trains them to do it and he doesn't want attention drawn to it. If you watch Barca they are identical. If you watch real they do the same. Most refs in the prem simply won't book anyone til the second half if they can get away with it cos they dont want a decision later in game. City merely exploit this fact. When your whole team does these things you don't need a James Milner type diving in stupidly and late. You have a player further up like salah or mane do the fouling.
Btw Spanish league finally over. Barca finishing on only 87 points, 11 clear of atletico in 2nd. 60 points would have been enough for 4th. Clearly not enough competition this league to motivate teams to do more. ..... nor is there enough money all tge way down toslosh about driving team development.
