Looks like Szmodics is off to Bristol City on a free (though they'll have to pay compensation).

Hope we weren't pinning all our colours to the mast on that one.

There are players sat on Preston's bench earning more than 8k per week, a full back at Millwall is on more than that and didn't play every week.

Kind of useless information but you won't find a striker on the Championship paid below 10k I would say based on wages I've seen.

It's the same old Allam tactics. They did the same with Dawson, Huddlestone & many others.

They have no intention of keeping the player. If you had any hopes of keeping a player at your club, why would you wait until the last few weeks of a contract before opening negotiations?

Like I said in a previous post, you have to pay a premium to get a good striker. Therefore I would be inclined to take on one player less than planned and use his wages to pay for Campbell. Maybe something like that is beyond the dynamic duo's comprehension.

However, as I said before, the Allam's don't care anymore, if they ever cared in the first place. They will just pay what the income of the club allows, so the fact that attendances are down meant there is not enough money to pay for a decent squad. So it is all the fans fault for not attending games. These twats don't care, they will sell Bowen, Turbo & Henriksen and maybe even Burke if they get a good offer, so they can get their money back, and will be happy to see us in division 1 or 2, as long as it doesn't cost them money, they are happy to see us all suffer.

Academies will invite players down to one or two training sessions a week at under 7’s, while still playing and training for their grassroots teams. Once the lads get to under 9’s they can then sign academy forms and would cease to play for their grassroots teams. I personally think kids should be left at grassroots teams until they are mentally mature enough to deal with rejection well, my lads 6 and a few of his teammates go to city training sessions, i rejected the chance to take my lad to further tournaments at city with his grassroots team as its not something i want for him at this age, but other parents have different views.

My daughters quite mentally tough and i took her to an academy at 10 when i felt she was old enough to deal with the academy environment, thriving and has been reccomended for england national camps, suppose it depends on the child in question and how they deal with things mentally. I dont think you should ever be having a conversation with a 6 year old telling them they arnt good enough.

    Totally agree.

Man City have an ‘Elite’ under 5s squad that train at their academy 3 times a week..

All the rumours so far, courtesy of Rick...

    Goalkeepers

With David Marshall close to release from his expensive contract, George Long will be City's only senior keeper. They appear to be on the look-out for a challenger to the new number one. In March, HITC linked City with a free transfer move for 26 year old Coventry City keeper Lee Burge who has been with the club his whole career and their first choice keeper for the last three seasons.

Ten days ago, City were one of a number of sides said to be watching Barnsley's Adam Davies by the Stoke Sentinel along with Stoke City, Birmingham City, Bristol City and Brentford. Davies, also 26, was born in Germany while his father was in the Armed forces and has one cap for Wales. He's played over 200 games for Barnsley after signing from Sheffield Wednesday.

    Defenders

Highly rated Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson has been linked with The Tigers, Rangers, Stoke, Sunderland and Preston by the Yorkshire Post amongst others. The 6 foot 3 inch, 21 year old centre-back is said to be available for around £450-500k. The Oldham Evening Chronicle claim City have already made a bid but Oldham turned it down as it was well short of their valuation.

Another homegrown Coventry City player, Jordan Willis, 24, is available for free according to Coventry Live and although Luton are the favourites to sign him, Hull City, Sheff Wed, Bristol City, Derby County and Portsmouth have all had a look.

Young Cardiff City right-back Ryan Pryce was linked by HITC a month ago and is apparently wanted by Fleetwood and Portsmouth. A Bournemouth youth product, the 21 year old dropped into non-league and joined Cardiff after an impressive spell with TNS in the Welsh league.

    Midfielders

Markus Henriksen is likely heading to France this summer. Kamil Grosicki has been linked with Istanbul Basaksehir by some Polish newspaper and Jarrod Bowen interests Leicester, Southampton, Everton, Burnley, Bournemouth, Spurs, etc depending on who you read for anything from £15m upwards.

A direct replacement for either winger, relegated Ipswich Town wide man Gwion Edwards was linked by HITC last week. The 26 year old former Wales U21 international moved to Portman Road from Peterborough for £700k a year ago and scored 6 times in 24 starts and 9 sub appearances in the Championship last season.

Another wideman Chris Willock was sort of linked by Portugeuse newspaper A Bola this week too. According to the paper, City, WBA, PR and Norwich all had loan bids refused for the former Arsenal youngster in January but Benfica will now let him leave. Willock is 21, has caps at every England youth level and has brothers Matty and Joe who are at Man Utd and Arsenal respectively. This one sounds as likely as an Allam apology.

Liverpool's 20 year old midfielder Herbie Kane has had an impressive season on loan at Doncaster and is said to be a loan target for City next season by Hull Live this week.

Another attacking midfielder, Sammie Szmodics is also on the radar according to the Daily Mail in March. The 23 year old scored 15 times in League Two for Colchester United and is sought after by Bristol City and Derby County at the end of his contract.

    Strikers

Just the one decent rumour in the striking department, an area City are looking decidely weak, and it came from The Scottish Sun in early April. Hearts stocky front man Uche Ikpeazu is supposedly wanted by Celtic and Rangers and the paper claim City will challenge them for his signature. The 6 foot 3 inch former Cambridge striker is big and quick but his record for games played and goals scored were both poor last season.

Daily Mail reporting this morning Manchester City could break the £75m world record price for a defender by signing Harry Maguire, that would mean a huge cash windfall for Hull City.

That would be quite exciting - if the squad were likely to get any benefits from it. Oh well.......................

How much exactly is a 'huge' windfall ? I thought we only had a relatively small sell-on clause

If he goes for £75m, we get £8.7m (15% of £58m).

Its big business now, and seems the academies leave no stone unturned, in my opinion i think its abit of a meat market, id be intrigued to know if any academies have support structures to deal and help with the ones that arnt deemed “good enough” . The books ive read suggest not, and some of the fall outs mentally from rejection can be quite severe, i really think the FA need to implement and enforce all academies have adequate support structures for kids that are released.

I don’t think that clubs should be taking players until they are about 10.

It's nonsensical to have kids under 10 in football academies.

For one, it's impossible to say if a kid who is great at football at 6 will be any good at 10, 15, 20 etc. A lot of players aren't good enough until they get their 'man strength' which for some, could happen at 16 (Rooney or Nicky Butt etc.) but for many others they don't get it until their early 20s, Roy Keane was rejected at Brighton as 16 year old for not being physical enough.

For two, if you coach kids too intensively from 6 you mould kids into the style you want. It's hard for anyone to be different or stand out later on. It's all well and good if you produce 20 Iniestas but you probably won't. But what you do is make it even harder for those once in a life-time talents to shake the game up. I don't think Ronaldinho or Gazza were in academies at 6, and thank god they weren't.
