I get what you're trying to say but .... John Moores invested very little in Liverpool, he 'bought' Everton's trophies. And since the National Lottery was introduced Liverpool have won 11 trophies
Can't believe anyone would even try and equate a 51% share in a club (with money made from pools, retail shops and mail order) to what city are owned by It's well documented that David Moores put very little money into LFC.
Its funny how this guy has no evidence whatsoever that Liverpool Fc from 1959 to 1990 was run at a massive loss. Have to wonder about that.
Exactly. FFP is about spending beyond your means isn't it? We were investigated a few years back but they hadn't taken into account the spend on stadium infrastructure.
I'm pretty sure Bob paisley painted the bogs in the main stand. I doubt sheikh mansour has arteta in there doing that. buying the league... hilarious. Might as well accuse derby county in 1975 of doing the same. For the record bill shankley was in charge 6 years before winning first title. after winning a second he was proven too loyal to his team that got rpomoted ant took 7 years to win another. If this is "buying the league" well I sure your good self will remember those teams and the young players who developed locally as well as the players who later joined form around the country for modest fees paid for from gate receipts I'm sure you remember the local players and the "vast" fee we paid scunthorpe for keegan. As i recall we bought him for the massive sum of 33k and sold him for 500,000 to hamburg 6 years later and used those funds to buy dalglish for a record fee of 440,000 so yeah... we "ruined" football obviously In 1965 our team was what? Lawrence (predated shanks) byrne (the famous shoulder wasnt it??) schoolboy Lawlor schoolboy Smith schoolboy yeats signed for 20k in 1961 Callaghan schoolboy milne 16k 1960 wallace schoolboy thompson 37k 1963 hunt schoolboy st john 1961 37.5k so shanks basically "bought" the league for about what man utd paid for dennis law (115k 1962) and spent it over several years too boot. So this little fantasy has been great entertainment. 4 players bought, the others there already or youths... and we "bought" the league back then Now as time went on sure players were bought and sold and teams developed in keeping with rest of the league..... but the inference was when the owners took over they pulled a city. patently the FACTS don't add up
just as a side note: the only time lfc were record British transfer record was stan collymore in 1995. by contrast we are now the holders of the record British SALE for coutinho for 142 mil City by contract have been record holders twice but have their excesses are in quantity not sizeof fees. (like utds stupid fee for pogba) City just lump out 50milfor full backs and inflate the market. 35 mil for ederson when it was considered massive. The next year we are charged mad money for alisson and have the stump up or be 4th. City drive the bubble. We are just spending barca's money.
Let's not forget the Moores family are a local family who invested in local teams. Liverpool and Everton were 'family run' businesses. The advent of the PL and foreign ownership created a huge change and was the reason Moores wanted out because he couldn't compete with the obscenely vast foreign wealth. The government willing ceded control in general of its role in world economy to new mega rich free market speculators which included foreign investment specifically in football. With the change in investment the market success of the elite PL clubs seemed increasingly to demand billionaire speculative global investors rather than the local rich family owners like the Moores. Enter Americans, Russians, Thais....
That's incorrect. We were British record holders in 1977 when we paid Celtic £440,000 for Sir Kenny. However that was offset by the £500,000 we received for Kevin Keegan from Hamburg. A few years later the records went into the £1 million bracket from 1978-1981, Trevor Francis who contrary to reports didn't cost £1 million £999,999. Steve Daley £1.25 million to Man City, Andy Gray to Wolves from Aston Villa £1.5 million and Bryan Robson WBA to Man United, £1.75 million. From 1981-1987 that record stuck until Liverpool paid Newcastle £1.9 million for Peter Beardsley. However just like the Kevin Keegan sale, Liverpool sold to buy. Liverpool sold Ian Rush for £3.2 million to Juventus. Liverpool also sold 3 players to fund the Mark Lawrenson £900,000 signing in 1981, Jimmy Case, Ray Clemence and Richard Money aka Dicky Dosh. Just as you've said we've history of selling to buy. We sold Coutinho for £142 million and bought Alisson and Virgil. Really the only money we've spent in 2018 was on Naby Keita, £52.75 Fabinho £39 million and the Shaq £13 million. There has been returns to someway balance that off with Ward and Solanke departing culminating in £32 million in returns. Ings is joining Southampton permanently which will take Klopps net spend to a reasonable £93.5 million. That will likely rise of course this summer but it won't be anything like Peps £395 million net spend. If reports are true, with potential sales the net spend may not be increased massively this summer. It may be close to trading break-even.
The record for.english clubs at the time of dalglish was Hamburg buy. the dalglish transfer is only an intrabritish affair. it's be like saying the record for a British club is not coutinho going but say lukaku from Everton to Utd. anyway we at win agreement here. they spurious claim by our city friend is so silly it's hilarious.
I note this is entirely.a mudslinging exercise at this point as it's not giving any detail or making any allegation other than city won't answer his question. if he's got anything he should be using it... 6.months of no comment and you publish nothing new means most likely you have nothing.
The claims from City and others is pretty feeble. I've seen even reds fans say we've spent vast sums and dismiss the amounts taken in. Yes Klopp has spent £408 million. However he was brought back in £294.5 million. So it's hardly huge.
in fairness it's over 20 years and wanted waste that gets people aka me. which is why klopp having a 95% success rate os a pleasent change. 2002 to 2004 for example.... the Suarez money... the committee bartering you get him if we get him... etc etc. buying 5 crap players hoping one isn't crap
Wasn't there an animated graph doing the round recently which showed the top spending clubs in Europe over a 25 year period? Seem to remember it being all the usual, Real, Man U, Juve etc etc for the first 15 years only for all them to be surpassed by City. All those 'big' clubs with huge international fanbases and successes to be overtaken by a club that was in League 2 not long ago.
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/sport-opinion/pep-guardiola-cant-expect-universal-16304823 The Man City boss reckons their treble is under-appreciated but there are good reasons why difficult questions have been asked. For a start, they have investigations by FIFA, UEFA, the FA and the Premier League hanging over them regarding how they have conducted their business off the field. Then there's the small matter of a net spend of around £1.2billion over the past decade which has created the most expensively assembled squad in the history of football. During the most one-sided FA Cup final for 116 years City brought on £150million worth of substitutes in Leroy Sane, Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones. By the time the sixth goal went in even Guardiola looked embarrassed by the gaping chasm between City and Watford. When you are bankrolled by the bottomless riches of Abu Dhabi, it's hardly a tale of overcoming the odds to triumph in the face of adversity.
