Theresa May news LIVE: Prime Minister announces she will resign on June 7
Theresa May has announced that she will stand down as Conservative leader on June 7.

She made the announcement during a statement outside Downing Street. It came after a Cabinet revolt over her Brexit plan.

It paves the way for a contest to decide the new Prime Minister.

The state of Theresa May crying.

Typical sociopath doesn't care about the millions of lives she's hurt but it's the end of the world now she's lost something.

    REALITY OF EUROPEAN ELECTIONS:

    1. UKIP had 24.2% of vote last time. This time Brexit part has 31.6% thats a 7.4% gain of total vote for Farage net. Thats all. not a massive 31.6% gain but it is still significant

    2. Lib dems as only real remain party gained 13.4 of vote share. thats actually a bigger swing than farage got.

    3. greens are an alternative protest vote but have no candidates they gained 4.2% share. again remain

    4. Tories lose 14.9% of votes. they didn't all go to farage... called a decimation

    5. labour lose 11.3% of vote. labour don't get as much of a media kicking.

It seems to me theres a clear and BIG rump there of leave. 31.6% of those who voted (presume its small) are that but a large group swung away form 2 main parties and went libs and green and frnakly labour should be pissing themsevles over it.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48403131

Its very clear that of those who voted there was a very strong diametrically opposed view. Brexit party was a clear protest vote

HOWEVER.... there was a total for 5.25million votes for brexit party. there were 3..3 for lib dems and 2.2 million for greens.

So what do that tell you.

    a) the turnout was 16.6million. (less than half of brexit vote)

    b) the remain parties were neck and neck with brexit party

    c) the tories and conservatives were wiped

    d) the net gain in SEATS for farage was a whole 5.... not precisely massive.

    Yep

Brexit Party replicated what UKIP did in 2014. And gained even more from the Tories. But hardly gained many more seats.

The labour party suffered massively. People didn't like their backing 2 horses. They wanted to remain to remainers and soft Brexit to their leave voters. They now have to change their ridiculous stance. Voters just want clarity now.

Same with Lib Dems . Their clear stance meant that they reaped all the remain votes deserted by labour voters.

What we will probably see is

Labour moving off the fence and going for remain and a second referendum. If they don't bite the bullet they'll be decimated at the next GE.

The new Tory leader will be going for a Brexit deal or no deal ticket. Again a clear position otherwise they'll be punished.

The Brexit party may have won more seats and a bigger share but the result is hardly a referendum and a vote for leave no matter what. The clear remain parties together got more than the Brexit party share.

All the Euro elections have done is pretty much ensured that the next Tory leader will state he is willing to leave at end of October plus with no deal if required .

it's funny to read media even BBC.

    the way it's being spun.

there's no way to call it but brexit party vote is big but they are ignoring remain totally

Replace Brexit Party by UKIP and no one will have been so surprised and excited. UKIP completely collapsed and on their way out.

The total vote of Liberal Democrats and Greens slightly higher than the Brexit Party so to say that the election shows than the population now all want to leave is way off the mark. If labour and the lib dems combine more clearly in parliament they could prevent the inevitable no deal that the new PM will try to push.

if you added what might be called remain together.... (also scots utterly ignored in this brexit cheering as they don't count it seems... and NI as well.)

    Remain:
Lib dems: Have clearly been the part of remain.. the whole way though. 3.36mil
Greens: minor but have been pro europe (but vote is also very clearly on a different agenda) 2.025mil
this ****ty change party (apparently remain) 575k
    SNP 590k
    Plaid 160k
    nationalist vote in NI 126k + 78k

    Lets call that... 6.9mil

    Brexiteers:
    brexit party: 5.28mil
    ukip 0.55
    dup 124k

    call that 5.95mil

    the main parties
    tory boys: 1.5mil
    Labour fence sitters 2.34mil

    how do you split those?

There is ZERO case here for this to be called a brexiteers dream. one brexiteer party ate the other. the same drive for brexit as before imo but no more. A strong mandate for remain shown

that'd not be a good analogy. it's pretty clear that teams can't join up in football whereas politicians will join up for any reason.

Probably, as they’ll likely read it wrongly. However, if they take that stance officially then the Govt will fall after a vote of no confidence and we’ll have a GE. The last thing the Tories want now is a GE.

They need to face reality, but I doubt they will, as it’s become way too polarised now.

Dont want this story government in charge, but....A general election now would be a bit of a **** show imo. Obviously no one will get a majority, but it could even be close who has the numbers to make government.

Pretty much. All that really happened was Ukip seats became Brexit Party seats.

Tory and Labour really lost out to the remain parties, cause nobody is sure where Lab stand and the Tories are a mess.
