Yeah, everyone I know would turn down the oppertunity to quad their wages and earn that sort of cash <doh>

Jesus, why do people think footballers shouldnt be able to earn as much as they can. They are not a fuggin charity.

He's joined a club in a country where the level of football is appalling, he is basically throwing his career away for the sake of more money, it's not like he was living on the breadline in England!

    A complete ****ing waste.

Throwing his career away? By and large the point of one's career is too earn money. He has bettered himself. Its irrelevant how much he was earning at sunderland, it is nothing in comparisson to what he is earning now. He has bettered himself. He is more secure now than he was. If he is playing football for money, then thats his buisness, not his fault he was gifted with a talent and wants to earn cash out of it.

Like ekotto at spurs, he dislikes football strongly, not all players are in it for the trophies. Some have other aspirations. Like never having to lift a finger when they retire.

If its true how much he is on, its about 10 mil, for a years work. Not many will turn that down. Look at eto'o. He is playing in a hell hole for 12 mil a year. Its buisness at the end of the day. PLayers sell themselves, they are a skilled trademan.

    They shouldnt be judged.

Eto'o has had a long and successful career, he really has nothing more to achieve.

Gyan is younger and has thrown away his career before he's achieved anything.

Thrown his career away. Going from about 40k to between 180 - 200k. Where do I throw my career away like that? I would like to sign up. People dont have a flippin clue.

Its like they expect footballers to go along with their peception of how they should act, even if what they have done is perfectly fine.

The money goes up, but the achievement goes down. A career in sport should not all be about money.

I highly doubt its 200k a week, i think its more along of the lines of 125k.

but i agree with you, he has the right to pick the job who offers you the most money.

If you went from earning 25k a year to 100k a year to do a easier job everyone would take it, so people should stop trying to jump on his ****ing ass.

I would take it yeah. Not if i was a footballer though or any other sportsman for that matter. He has a right to make his own decisions though you are right on that count. Im not criticising him i just think its sad.

In what way do you think its sad?

The sad term as in litrally your sad that hes playing in arabia.

Or the sad term as in hes got no life?

cause it aint either? Arabia is a great place to live ( especially dubai ) and hes getting payed tons of money a year, mate if i was him i'd be very happy.

As in its sad that he sold out his promising career to play in a ****ty league. Its not sad for him obviously because his personal success is clearly not what motivates him.

    Guess its opinion really.

For me in the olympics the guy receiving the gold medal is the winner, not the guy with the biggest sponsorship deal.

And that guy with the gold medal will treasure that memory for life.

The guy with the money will be able to do as he pleases everyday for the rest of his life.

I suppose its what motivates you individually. Im a money orientated person I would say. There obvious things I value above it of course, family, love, generally being happy. But those who said money cant buy you happiness were not telling the whole truth, it certainly helps.

For someone like Gyan making as much money as possible IS his career. Just like most normal peoples actually.

He's a fairly average player, let's face it it he's no world beater, so he's highly unlikley to win the medals that he'd have to sell in old age to support his alcoholism. Ask the England world cup winning team (the ones no one paps on about every four years) what they'd rather have now, financial security or the memory of the medal they've just sold.
His country will never win anything, not that they'd stop picking him anyway. For a player like him, by that I mean journeyman footballer, the choice between Sunderland and trebling his money in a nice hot sunny climate is no decision. I bet he doesn't care a **** for the mighty premier league.

I don't blame him at all, it's not like he'll be greatly missed.
