Red Star Belgrade's 1991 European Cup win was an odd one, given it was still a straight knockout yet they always seemed to play for a draw if they could help it First round vs Grasshopper 1-1 home & 4-1 away Second round vs Rangers 3-0 home & 1-1 away Quarter final vs Dynamo Dresden 3-0 home & 3-0 away Semi final vs Bayern Munich 2-1 away & 2-2 home Final vs Marseille 0-0 (won on penalties) ...which begs the question, were Dynamo Dresden really bad, or did Red Star momentarily remember their midfield was made up of Savicevic, Prosinecki, Jugovic and Mihajlovic?
Yes I was a tad put out by Son's clean sweep of the various paperweights we give out every year. This man was not only the most improved player in world football this year, he also works harder than any spurs player I can ever recall seeing. If he scores the winner on saturday. Just imagine. The scenes. I'd have to get a tattoo of his face on my arse.
If he does, I'll get a tattoo of his arse on my face...................................(actually I won't, just thought I'd write it for a cheap laugh). Agree with the rest of your post. I think that he has been inspirational this season. When he went off against Citeh, my heart sank.
I don’t agree. Mrs Spurcat voted for Sissoko and I told her that if he won, then I would storm out of the stadium in disgust and file for divorce on the grounds that she didn’t have a clue. Rather than start an argument on here, I’ll just say that he wouldn’t have been in my top two.
Completely agree about awards. Son had a great season and he scored a good amount of goals but he was also anonymous in a number of spells. Where as I couldn't even fill up on one hand of bad games from Sissoko this season. As for him scoring the winner, I said this over on the Prem board earlier:
Ben Davies is set to have a hernia operation next week which will put him out of action for 6 weeks. He'll be in the match day squad for Liverpool but won't be able to start as he has been playing through the pain for most of the season, which would explain his sudden drop in form from last season's heights. He'll miss the Nations Cup and will hopefully be available to feature alongside Lo Celso, Tielemans, N'Dombele and Neres in our final pre season match
I can report that all Inger-Spurs are set to have an "operation" next week that will put them "out of action" for 6 weeks. < get the hint, Southgate >
Props to Ben for playing through the pain barrier, especially because you never know if Rose is one injury away from missing a batch of games. Soldier.
I'm pretty sure that he trialled for us in the early 80's, maybe '83 or so? Unfortunately, he was no longer the player of the '78 WC. It's a shame that we didn't get Passarella. He was a fabulous player.
Is Winks back? if so...ready to start? for me, he is part of a balanced midfield for us...we need him to keep things ticking over and is the best available for that job Like everyone else im having FB nightmares
I wonder how different history would have been had Peru not completely thrown the game against Argentina and Brazil had got to the final instead? Would we have bought Ardiles and Villa or gone for Zico and Cerezo instead? Would the Dutch have won a world cup?
