Did I mention that BMWs have been banned in South Korea due to so many of them inadvertently catching fire?
This video isn't from S.Korea, but is typical of what has been happening to Beemers. There's a known fault in the fuel feed. BMW at first denied it [of course], then the results became overwhelming, and finally when S.Korea banned them, they woke up.

 

Jeez, there are some massive rumours emerging in the automotive industry today. People may know by now that FIAT- Chrysler have made a move to merge with Renault, but that's not the rumour, that's actually true, though there are rumours flying around at the implications of it. The big rumour is that Ford may merge with General Motors. This is all to do with the emerging EV revolution that is starting to happen. Ford have nothing to offer. ZERO. GM has some real expertise in EVs, though they keep wasting it. Ford have spare cash because their FT-150 pickup truck gives them a massive profit. Cheap to make, obsolete, but Americans love it. It's the top selling vehicle in the USA. They don't consider cars with occasional trailers, like We and Europe do. That's not Hollywood enough.
Nissan are pee'd off with Renault because the nature of their tie up with them is that Renault can affect Nissan's business arrangements, but Nissan can't vote on Renault's. This is thought to be part of the reason why Renault/Nissan CEO Carlos Chosn was targeted for corruption, when he possibly is innocent, in order to strengthen Nissan's position. It's all intrigue in the automotive industry today.
Apart from this, there are rumours of very real dangers that certain companies will simply disappear, because Tesla has left them totally out of their depth. They laughed only a few short years ago, but the chickens are coming home now.

 

A friend of mines caught fire the other day...1 month after it had been in to BMW to get checked for th fuel fault and given the all clear.

 

Yep. I've heard this sort of thing happening. In my opinion, the service centres aren't being negligent. It's a design fault. And being German, [OK, that's my VW, BMW, Audi, whatever prejudice showing, but with half decent historic reason] BMW have patched it instead of doing a competent redesign and a call back of affected vehicles. Basically because this goes back through an awful lot of Beemers, it would cost them a shed-load to do it properly. The basic advice is, don't buy a Beemer. And if anyone is contemplating purchasing a secondhand one out of warranty then go and stick your head under the cold tap until you come to your senses.

 

BTW, that issue about Carlos Ghosn that you see in the news about his corruptive behaviour [he pleads his innocence] I've read a few things about him, and people's meetings with him. He's a thorough hard-headed business man. Someone who I couldn't be, for instance. But he's of interest to me because the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe came about because of his express order, so I view him fairly at least. Here's a 2011 Fully Charged Show interview with him involving our hero Kryten, sorry Robert Llewellyn. Is this a cheat or corrupt shiester?

Bio-fuels. Remember them? You can power nearly 2½ cars [2.4 actually] on one football field of produce that can be made into bio-fuel. Or you can power 260 cars with the same field covered by photo-voltaic cells and some battery storage. OK, one-off, up front cost. But solar and batteries is the cheapest form of electricity and you only have to plant it once every 30-40 years.

 

Move over Ferrari's Hybrid Stradale. Lotus are bringing out an all-electric 1000hp hypercar. Being electric, the horse power is just a bit of a by-product. The real thing is the torque. They will be revealing it for real in mid-July. If you want to ask the price you can't afford it. About £1+ million. Normally I don't get overly enthusiastic about hypercars, but this one is electric, so fine. Another smack-down to FFVs:

 

If Electric is now so user friendly, how come public transport, like bus companies aren't jumping on board? That would be an ace selling point for me.
