The system will function through one of two interfaces; a traditional desktop, similar to that seen in previous editions of Windows, and a tablet version, known as Metro. Metro features larger, chunky controls of the sort that best suit touchscreen use. The current lack of such an input method is widely seen as the reason why few Windows 7 tablets exist. Microsoft said that it would also be launching its own online marketplace - the Windows Store - to sell downloadable applications." Am I the only one who thinks these tablet devices are pointless and will die off in a few years? I mean do we really need a device that fits in between a smartphone and a netbook which is still pretty damn portable and as far as I can see that is the only advantage of a tablet over a netbook.
tablets are too big to be truly portable and in a few years phones will overtake them. Phones are already as good as laptops were about 5 years ago so the next generation of phones should be awesome.

My boss was handed a company iphone (which he didn't really want) and has managed to win 2 iPads in the last 6 months whilst playing online poker. Every time we manage to meet someone new for a business meeting or whatever and they have an Apple product I proceed to tell "ah my boss here is a huge Apple fan, he even has an iPhone and two iPads" It's funny because people smile, don't say much, but secretly think he's a cock - and he can't be annoyed going through the rigmarole of telling them how he accidentally acquired so many Apple products. It's even funnier when these random people come back and start talking about Apple later to him when trying to make polite conversation.
