What would happen if we bring in a special new month of continental trophies, and we devote one full month of the year to it .... let's think this through together and see how good an idea we can come up with. ...

Each one has a system that pits all teams against equally matched opponents, and offers all a chance to progress up the tiers if it plays well enough.

In the newly invented and wonderful Africa Trophy the other nations (Zim Nam Ken etc) go up against teams representing the nine individual provinces of South Africa (and each player can only represent the one province he lived in longest). This gives us a competition involving all the best players and with several who have a good chance to make the top spots.

In the new Americas Trophy we see all the individual nations submitting separate teams, so while USA goes up against St Kitts, Dominica, St Lucia, Canada, Bermuda, Antigua and others in tier 2, others (Bar TnT Guy Jam) compete in tier 1 or (Arg, Brz, Mex, T&C, StM, Msr, BVI, Falklands) in tier 3. ...

In the Europe Trophy we give all of England's shire county council areas, its boroughs, unitary areas and metropolitan districts (so 150 local authority areas) all separate competing teams. Going up against them are all the nations and the autonomous islands... After the first two years we end up with a 7-tier system of battles for higher and lower places and for the chance to go up into the next tier up, which only one team per tier per year gets (and one is relegated) ... 20 teams per tier in the top three levels and maybe 10 per tier below this ... ? ... (or if 150 if too ambitious or costly we could use the police force areas of Eng instead)

The Asia Trophy would, in an ideal world, contain teams for all of the states and territories of India (plus special areas like Baroda and Saurashtra) and the provinces of Pakistan going up against all the other countries, and I hope we can make the post-Soviet stans, Siberia (as a special area team), and Iran and Myanmar join in too. But if we find that India's and Pakistan's areas are not letting each other have safe travel access, etc one suggested solution would be to let Pakistan's areas join any other continent's trophy (elsewhere in the world) of their choosing ... (maybe they would all choose the same continent, maybe they wouldn't) ...

The Oceania Trophy would have a team for each state and each territory of Australia (plus maybe the 1 or 2 biggest cities and Auckland), separate teams for NZ's N & S islands, and all of E & SE Asia (including Jap, Sng & HK) play against them, with separation by tiers.

If the top tier of each competition has two teams more/less every other year (4-6, 6-8, or 8-10 teams), starting from year 3 onwards (?). So if for example years 2 & 4 & 6 in the Americas the top two from tier two rose to join Guy Jam Bar & TnT in the top level, knowing that if they make the top four, they replace and relegate one of the four, which would be quite an event and achievement.

Readers/Planetcricketeers, would you say that this clever redesign of the world would solve the problem of us not wanting to have a too heavy favourite to win in each continent, while also allowing more of the best players to play at the international level, plus the fans get to support all the players who truly come from the region they are playing for?

There is much potential in this, and good plenty of good viewing for all, I believe, and I feel this format would draw in more viewer interest as people would have no trouble working out which area to support (in contrast with millionaires' shopping trolley games such a club football).

    SPECIAL MONTH B :

In one other month of the year, all the world's country teams play their neighbours in the rankings for a place in the next tier up. So in yr1 we may have Aus Eng Saf Ind Pak & NZ in the top tier; 7-10 in B; 11-14 in C; 15-18 in D; .... and every other year the cut-offs would be different: 1-4 in A; 5-8 in B; 9-12 in C; 13-16 in D; .... .... .... So every country plays its neighbours which makes great suspense and evenly matched encounters, and all get the chance to move up the rankings (or to stay up) if they play well enough to .... It's ok for all of us to focus mostly on our own country's team, but don't you think that it would also be great to see more 10-17 action (Afg, Zim, UAE, Nep, Omn, Ire, Sco, Ned) on TV? I'd love to see them play right now. Could we also have a team Wales in this?

Topic C : The winter time - Usually when a country falls into a particularly cold time of year its season ends and only one (national) team travels to somewhere warmer while the other players have no cricket action at all in these months ... let's hear your views, people, would it be best to bring in well-funded indoor cricket for the colder times? Or should we have a system whereby several teams travel to a warmer area and participate in a special trophy event there in this time? This could mean that if we have the continental trophies occurring in different months in different continents, there could be visitors from all over the world also participating with the local teams ... but what makes this especially tricky is that nothing sells like a home team game, so can the visitors play each other?

Readers/not606cricketers, would you say that this clever redesign of the world would solve the problem of us not wanting to have a too many mismatches, plus the fans get to support all the players who truly come from the region they are playing for?

There is much potential in this, and plenty of good viewing for all, I believe, and I feel this format would draw in more viewer interest as people would have no trouble working out which area to support (in contrast with millionaires' shopping trolley games such a club football). Some of the above may even be so good that we will expand it to more months ... how much player rest time to have in the year? How much clubs play time? What if we had three three month long periods and a rest/transition month in between each? ......

    also:

What if we had a two teams (one ball each, both released at the same time) race around half of the field (nine straddling the boundary rope) and to the stumps to replace the toss?
This idea brings more skill and new viewer-friendly drama in to replace chance.
