You’d have to put them in the mix for relegation. Iffy manager and they’ve sold 2 strikers and lost the one hey had on loan.
I'm not laughing at you signing Delph. He may turn out to be one of your better signings. My only contention is that his signing and Milner's signing are similar only by their age and where they have come from. I stand by that. The on paper comparison may look similar but the reality is far different. At the time of signing, Milner was an integral part of the city team. He'd just played a full season for them and they offered him an enhanced contract to stay. He turned it down. Delph, on the other hand, barely laced his boots up last season, is and has only ever been a bit part player for city. No shame in that but it points to his career at city and Milner's career at city not even being in any way similar. With regard to PL titles, Delph played 8 games to get his latest one, Milner played 31 games to get his. You could say it's about contribution or you could just look at the stat and ignore how it was achieved. There's a long list of players who are fortunate enough to have medals they didn't 'deserve'. Just look at who picked up CL medals this year.
Maybe a buy back in his contract or a nice percentage sell on? He was never trusted by Sam, looked to be a Walsh buy under Koeman and maybe just never showed enough for Silva. Like many over the years, we saw flashes of what he coudl do, but not regular enough and never took his chance it appears.
signing on fee used to be payable every time a contract was signed and possibly still is but freebies normally get an extra amount on top of the standard amount.
If you think Delph has the same ability and workrate as Milner you're in for another hilarious season
If you're talking about what he will bring to you then yes, that is an unknown. But if you're talking about what players in general bring to teams, ie the teams they are in, it's pretty obvious and there for all to see.
In all honesty I've never predicted how any player turned out. We don't buy ready made stars so pretty much every buy is a gamble. Gary Mac was a player with a fantastic record, still playing full seasons but in the twilight of his career when we got him and his play was a continuation of what it had always been. He was a dead ball specialist extraordinaire who gave everything in a game. I don't think at his age anyone would have predicted his Liverpool spell would turn out the way it did but there was also no reason to suggest he wouldn't be able to 'keep up'⁰
You never know how players will turn out. I've never pretended otherwise. I like to wait and see rather than try and claim something that isn't true.
I agree. You're already expecting leadership from him though so hope that works out better than Eto'o who carried similar expectations
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...bian-delph-looks-unspectacular-can-take-next/ "In that far wider pool of players, where does Delph actually belong? Is he that much better than Morgan Schneiderlin? Delph's run of matches in the first team correlated ominously with City's mid-season drop in form too. Delph's red card, for a horrible, needless follow-through on Ricardo Pereira, appears to be the moment Guardiola realised Delph wasn't for him. A previous red card, for a shocking tackle against Wigan, was a major factor in City's FA Cup derailment the season before too - a player supposedly so experienced has shown too many rushes of blood to the head. Delph's performances for England have been absolutely fine. However, the two matches he started in the 2018 World Cup were defeats and, somewhat worryingly, England haven't won a game Delph has started in since he captained the team in a 3-0 win over the USA in November 2017." TBF he sounds exactly like an Everton player
**** me Just watched the city v West Ham first half Hammers denied stone pen and conceded a blatant dive Wtf it’s preseason !
Man City can get as lucky as they like in pre-season, hopefully they'll use all their luck up before the actual season starts
