If it wasn't for bad luck,we'd have no luck at all.

Yeah Nsiala did his hamstring too.

Edwards, Nolan and Judge not getting a full pre-season or missing the start is a concern.

When you have a paper thin squad you put more pressure on a handful of players and you end up with more injuries on top of the inevitable ones.

We are so far short of the business we needed to do this summer it's pretty frightening. We are probably going to end up resorting to the four or five loans again I would have thought.

So Bish is out for 3 months while both Nsiala & Lankester are due to miss the start of the season. I don’t believe in this being bad luck, i (& others) have said before, someone has to take a look at the way we are training as I’ve never seen a 1st team with so many injuries

Bishop has hardly played over the last few seasons so its time to get rid, we can't keep on carrying these expensive liabilities.

I think our poor injury record over the past few years is a combination of factors. Most certainly, there is something wrong in our approach to training and coaching. Last pre-season, Hurst did mostly running and fitness drills, which ironically didn’t work, but maybe if he had stayed on, we would’ve looked fitter? It still shocks me that only last summer did we actually put a sports science system in place at the club. Miles behind our old Championship competitors in that regard, absolutely shameless for a club of our supposed stature.

Another main factor, in my opinion, is that for several years we’ve been restricted to a transfer market where freebies and loanees is the main aim of the game. For free transfer, there are reasons why those players are released, and for players like Huws, Adeyemi, and Keane from last season alone, they came to the club with a record of injury problems. So we do ourselves no favour in that regard.

It's no secret I never felt Hurst was the problem (although lots of things he did infuriated me, ironically things that by and large Lambert has perpetuated). He upset some people because the club needed a rocket up its arse. Instead of rocking the boat, disrupting, we now have business as usual.

Darren Bent's 100 club programme came on Sky last night after the Man City game and there was footage of that era and Burley talking. Bent was talking about the training and it is just so far away from what we have become now.

The paper thin squad is such serious cause for concern now with these injuries, the weaknesses in defence and up front, that the League Two trapdoor becomes a real danger.

I am simply astonished that Evans hasn't reacted to our relegation by putting some of these things right.

I wonder to myself if I’m just being pessimistic and that we’ll come out the blocks flying.

    Just can’t see it.

We didn’t need to spend a fortune, just offload a couple of midfielders toward signing four or five decent players. Free transfers and journeymen would have done. But we haven’t done it.

The defence is so paper thin it’s not true. With Nsiala injured at the moment we have Emmanuel, Chambers, Wolfy & Kenlock + Garbutt as a loanee (he may play further forward) other than that, it’s the youth players unless I’ve missed someone. With only 2 weeks to go, I am becoming concerned

I can see the likes of Colchester and Cambridge battering us in these friendlies. That's how bad I think it is. Even if Norwood grabs a goal a game we're still in trouble.

I was at the game tonight, and I don’t know what was more embarrassing - fans taking photos of the 5-0 scoreline on the electronic scoreboards, or the fact the scoreboards at Colchester United’s ground are far better than ours!

Joking aside, regarding the match, slightly nervy first half where we took our penalty well, but proceeded to get cut apart by several quick Colchester United moves. Fortunately their attacking third was pretty poor and we had a fairly reliable last line of defence. No idea what “style” of football we were trying to play though. Still elements of direct football over the free flowing stuff we would like to see.

However, second half onwards though, we were a clear cut above. Norwood took his second and third goals really well (particularly the second). Jackson, as much of a critic I’ve been of him last season, looked very comfortable here and took his two goals well, particularly his second. Huws was very good off the bench and I thought Rowe, Downes, and Nydam had good games.

Obviously much tougher tests to come, but it’s refreshing to see us having a cutting edge and looking fairly solid for once (based mainly on that second half).

Massive season for Huws, keep fit and manage to play 90% of this season's games and I think we could sneak into the top 6. I think he is a class above league 1 and can make a massive difference if fit.
In just hope Norwood stays fit, the one player we just can't afford to lose!
These two players are going to be massive for us this season.

Nuggets, how did Holy do in goal, was he commanding in his area? Also how did El Mizouni do?

I maintain that our best chance is for Jackson and Norwood to play alongside each other, Norwood inspiring Jackson to his best.

Strong goalkeeper, strong midfield, strong forward line, maybe we can get away with shoddy defending IF Norwood and Jackson stay fit and fire on all cylinders and our superior talents like Woolfy and Huws have a good season.

Those full backs and CDM and wings really bother me though and we are really rolling the dice with striking options. It's not ideal. Luck plays a massive part if we are to bounce back up. We saw how Sheffield United's runaway season was derailed when they lost Ched Evans.

He didn’t really have much to do, to be honest. Definitely struck me as more vocal than Bart though. We were sat behind the goal in the North Stand, and so got to see up close for the first half and he was constantly shouting and pointing his defenders around, particularly at set pieces (again, more than Bart and Gerken in recent years). He showed good handling and didn’t drop a cross either, which wasn’t surprising due to his height.

He’ll collide with Wolfie in training sidelining them both for six months with Dozzell tripping over their bodies ending his career completely!

How was his distribution?I think that’s one of Bart’s weak points.

Bart is also terrible from close range or in a crowded box. If Holy is better organised as the communication would indicate then he will arrange defenders better in crowded situations I would have thought to give him a better chance at making a stop.

Yeah, Holy certainly seemed to organise the defenders better. I guess the real challenge will be how he fares in league games, if he gets picked above Bart.

As for his distribution, Big Al, short passes seemed fine and he did enjoy throwing it out wide for full backs. His long kicking was a bit off though, from what I remember he kicked it out of touch a couple of times.
