Early again this week as will be off before the end of the week and wouldn't want to leave the duty to anyone else. Next week somebody else will need to do the honours.

Right then. Last week was far better result wise than anyone probably thought it would be. That was away. This week it is a home fixture and most things point to a home win. However, are things normally that simple and especially where Argyle are concerned. We all know that will be a no then. Mr Lowe has spoken about making Home Park a fortress again. Have to say over the last few seasons that would be novel at the very least.

Can we win this one? Of course we can and I have a feeling there will be a large(ish) crowd for this first home game of the season. The players will be up for it and will want to continue where they left off in the last game and show the home crowd how good they can be. I will have everything crossed and will try to find somewhere to erm, have a tincture or two and follow the scores. I think we will do it but I'm not expecting three goals again.

Will be back in time to do the predictions for the next Saturday. Only just but it only takes me a few minutes to do them. Will do for the Moose Cup though. I guess that's score, time and crowd.

Here we go then, The Big Day. Seldom has the first home game of any season been greeted with such excitement. Let's hope it lives up to expectations: those who get so hyper despite cautionary messages from the management are those that get most bitter when the odd thing goes wrong.

Flag across the road is completely horizontal and 40mph + winds are forecast until 8pm but it looks like it will be dry-ish. Looking forward to it intensely.

All looks good in PL3. A bit windy on the prom with 50% chance of light rain before lunch, big crowd, lovely pitch, feeling good. Off up there to work in a few minutes.

A day to keep the ball on the ground.....will the wind be up and down the pitch....or across the pitch.....if it's blowing into one of the goals....then as they say...it will be a game of two halves.....one attacking and one defending.

Apologies for the late match report: for some reason I can no longer get onto the site from my mobile.

Where to start? You all need to take out your exercise books and tear out all you have written there in the past 5 years plus. This isn't Argyle as you have known it. Please start again.

This was a hard fought game, in the cerebral sense. Colchester have been tipped for a top third finish at least, playing a counter attacking style and that's what they did, trying to deny Argyle space and breaking though a quick wide man in Courtney Senior and a powerful striker in the Alan Shearer mould. That would have done for Argyle's back 4 last season and now we have only three, consisting of the same personnel as last time. Those three yesterday limited Colchester to one very serious chance when Senior whipped a truly evil ball across the Argyle 6 yard line at knee height with Norris lurking at the back post. The erstwhile villain of our defensive troubles, Scott Wootton launched himself horizontally and toe ended a certain goal to safety. Sonny Bradley himself would have got a tattoo of that moment, space permitting.

A solid back three were protected by Joe Edwards who isn't immense in stature but my goodness the word could have been coined for him, Nobody runs at the middle of the defence while he's on the pitch and he can pass it too. No tears for Yann Songo'o I'm afraid.

The wing backs have the focus more on "wing" than "back" but both performed with energy and skill, bombing forward at every opportunity. As it seems at Crewe, the weakest area was in central midfield where both Sarcevic and Mayor got caught in possession too many times. That's going to be costly eventually when you are pushing so many players forward. Nevertheless, Sarcevic is a force of nature and Mayor isn't entirely human. He has an ability to be facing one way one second and then the other way without visibly moving a muscle. It puzzles defenders no end. One one occasion he got an awkward ball played out to him from defence with a defender at his back. It looked like trouble and the ball did indeed flick up off his raised foot. Instead of being trapped, the ball flipped over his right shoulder.... directly to the advancing McFazdean. It's passing, but not as we know it.

Up front, Grant and Moore buzzed around the Colchester defence producing some very uncertain passing back there and several panicky hoofs into touch. I do hope Grant's injury isn't serious: he deserves better.

Moore has a startling turn of pace. When he was joined by Telford, it was bit like two peas in the pod: lightweight, pacy and very very annoying for defenders. Small they may be, but they are up for the physical battle and their nimbleness and tenacity means they get the better of much bigger defenders more often than you'd expect. They are helped by the fact that Argyle kept the ball down more often than not.

Lastly, the keeper. Big. Brilliant, Very Noisy. Just what we needed. Not a lot to do in truth apart from one smart save low down late on, but never, ever gave cause for concern. Good feet, distribution is good, Get the cheque book out.

A good entertaining game, good football from both sides although few clear chances, and a well deserved victory. But do you know what, get that centre midfield humming like the rest of the team, delver the skills we have there, and we can do better.

Thanks notDistant....sounds promising......when this team gels...which means new and old members of this team familiarise themselves to each others style of play then we'll be cooking on gas for sure.
With my limited time of video viewing over two games....I feel lady luck has just fallen Argyle's side of the line.....there was that moment yesterday when Colchester put a very useful ball across Argyle's penalty area .....and not one Colchester player could get a toe on it...the defence breathed a sigh of relief....they were certainly not in control of that moment....but in the end I assume you make your own luck....only one goal and that is all you need if you can keep a clean sheet.

Imagine a few weeks back...if we were told that Argyle would be playing with a three man defence...and that would be Sawyer, Wootton and Canavan....we would probably all be holding our heads in our hands in despair....yet Ryan Lowe has turned them into a two match clean sheet outfit ? (are you watching Adams).....and Crewe and Colchester could be quoted as two of the stronger teams in this division....and we have won both games with possibly an understrength attack.....can't wait to see what Aimson can bring to the party....I do feel we need another striker during this window....we know Taylor's ankles won't allow him a great amount of playing time and our younger strikers need an injection of experience....maybe on loan for a few months elsewhere where they can get some playing time....I suggest they come up here and play for my local team Bromley or Torquay....those two teams played out a 3-3 draw yesterday.

Finally how can we keep Alex Palmer out of the news and stop West Brom from wanting him back until next summer....It sounds like he is owning his penalty area and in charge of aerial attacks.....also he can kick well and in control with the ball at his feet.....and importantly he can command his area vocally as well....it makes you wonder how we coped last year with such dross between the sticks.....I doubt if we would have been relegated last season if we had Palmer in goal.....a confident keeper helps the defence in front of him to be more assured of their rolls.
