It's gotta be olly Lancashire, just never felt confident when he was playing. Wotton I thought was better than everyone made out and Lloyd James I quite liked him actually!

I have to give this to Bradley Wright Phillips - controversial but for me its about effort put in as well as skill and this boy used to annoy the hell out of me. Never played for the shirt and just looked like he couldn't give a toss just felt it should all come to him. Ironically we were paying him 8-9k a week which I feel is a tad too much for a whiney little arse of a brother of someone who is actually quite good at football.
AHHHHHHHH waited years to let that out

I'd forgotten about him yet that one word still sends shivers down my spine. I never understood why we signed him. I heard it was somethingto do with trying to get his dad as manager

Paul Wotten is the most basic footballer we have EVER had!
He only knew how to pass one way and that was backwards!

Paul Wotton did his best for us..what NA would call an honest professional. The one that I thought didn't play to his potential was N'Guessen on loan. Could have been good but not a team player, threw a wobbler and left.

Plus of course there are players with bugger all potential to live upto. Wotton was, as you say, an honest professional, who did the job required of him. People also single out Anthony Pulis, yet there half a dozen players who would qualify alongside him. Let me rattle a few off:

    Cédric Baseya
    Adrian Caceres
    Romain Gasmi
    Zoltán Lipták
    Lee Molyneux
    Lucien Mettomo
    Marcelo Tejera
    Jason St Juste
    Alaeddine Yahia

There's nothing wrong with these players, it's just that they should never have come within a 100 miles of Southampton. But we were so bloody desperate to get players in on the cheap, that we ended up wasting their time and ours. I don't blame them. I blame the boardroom and management of SFC.

I remember how when Liptak ended up playing for Hungary against England at Wembley not so long ago, the commentators ended up calling him the ex Southampton stalwart. Some really really poor research going on there!

Nicholas Bignall is another one you can add to the list for making no impact whatsoever.

Thank you Fran. So when people nominate the likes of Olly Lancashire or Jermaine Wright, you now know that there were a entire level of player BELOW them. the ones you've heard of may have even played a game or two. ;)

Indeed, my list didn't require an awful lot of research. They were stone cold plonkers. There were others who I gave the benefit of the doubt to. How about Jacinto Ela Eyene, for example..? Heard of him..? ;)

Liptak was a ridiculous signing. He was a CB but nearly every time he played - we threw him on as a striker to get a goal. Fail.

Gasmi a complete and utter waste of time - 4 sub appearances?

Tbf to Cedric Baseya, he was quite highly rated when he left Saints and I was disappointed when he did as he had potential. Looking on his wiki, it looks like at 23, his career's not up to much.

Llyod James was poor but not the worst we've had since the Premier League relegation in '05, that'd be Pulis or Four-past. The latter went on loan to Thurrock(?) and let in 4 goals in one game against Dover and was subsequently sent back. Seen as sh*t for Blue Square South level, say no more.

Lancashire was out of his depth but at least he's still in League Football.

Wottn tried his best but his best years were past him unfortunately.

I thought that Liptak did very well in that game against England! Certainly rattled Rooney a few times, but it was purely due to already having Saejis that we didn't play him more at CB...

Where to begin on this one? There are loads worth a mention but I would say Oliver Lancashire was particularly awful. I would agree with those that thought Lloyd James wasn't too bad.

The debate starts and ends here for me. Yes we've had a whole host of loan signings that came here and contributed very little, but they hardly played a full 90 minutes between them. Lancashire is easily the worst player we've had since Premiership
