Id like to see us play: Fährmann Byram Zimmerman Klose Heise Amadou Vrancic Roberts Srbeny Mclean Idah Should be enough there to comfortably beat a League 2 side!
Looks like Farke has also thought about playing Amadou at centre back tonight. Tettey and Drmic out so I'll change them.
I'd agree with that line-up except that Zimbo isn't ready to start, so probably Hanley or Godfrey with Zimbo coming on as sub. I wouldn't risk Cantwell with Hernandez out for 3 months. Essential all our current first choice players are available for West Ham. One crude tackle could land us in deep trouble.
I think it's important that Amadou plays at DM to get used to how we play. With Zimbo now, we have 4 CB's available, but only Trybull and Tettey at DM. At DM, Amadou can be a key player, breaking up attacks or dropping back if one of the CBs is pulled out of position (which has been a problem so far). That's less likely against Crawley, but could be a key role for West Ham and Citeh.
He is good in both positions much like Godfrey, as Farke mentioned Amadou was brought in as Tettey and Trybull were both injured and since then we have had bigger problems at centre back . I personally think Amadou is potentially our best centre back , tall powerful and good on the ball.
DF tends to be more open minded about it, having seen him train in both roles successfully. Plus neither Klose or Zimmers are anywhere near match fit so it may be counter-productive to risk them against a league 2 outfit in a Disney-esque cup competition. #mickeymouse
I had a little read up on him when he signed. Making his Lille debut in 2015/16 as centre back against PSG . Lille lost 1-0 . He also played in goal against Strasbourg when the Lille keeper was sent off losing 3-0. Lille bought him as a centre back he was made captain and later played mainly as defensive midfield before his big money move to Sevilla. He looks like a big unit and seeing as we let in 8 goals in 3 games an average of 2.666 goals a game and Klose and Zimmermann are only just coming back from Injury it may be a good opportunity to chuck him in . He can't be any worse than Lewis put it that way .
I'm not sure why everyone wishes to be so disparaging of the 'what ever it is this year' cup. Ok so most teams have bigger fish to fry either trying to get to the PL or stay in it. But it is great to have a cup run, not least of all to keep our second string in meaningful action. It really doesn't take too many rounds and suddenly a quarterfinal looms large and suddenly it's a good deal more interesting and meaningful. For a club of our stature, if we can secure PL status for a few seasons, it represents a great chance to get a day out at Wembley and even a trophy. I'd love a cup run for a trophy that sadly is all we've ever won and as such do we really want to be calling it Mickey mouse? It's not as bad as the UEFA cup with it's sudden dump of knocked out CL teams. Bah!
I think the most important thing is where did DF and SW envisage him playing? Where have they been working on him playing? Because if as suspected the answer to those questions is DM, then he will not be prepared for playing CB and with both Klose and Zimmermann returning and in need of minutes I don't think he should play there unless needs absolutely must. I agree with BedfordC's line up, if CZ and TK are fit enough to play any part, far better to give them as many minutes as possible and have the option to take them off to protect them as necessary. The only other temptation might be to give Buendia some extra minutes, much has been said of his disrupted preseason and that he is not quite fully match fit. If DF perceived the same the Buendia for McLean might work too. Fährmann Byram Zimmerman Klose Heise Amadou Vrancic Roberts Srbeny Mclean Idah Bah!
We have been pretty crap in both cups nearly all my adult life and I have had the hope and excitement completey knocked out of me . They are however an excellent way of giving youth and new players minutes and confidence in a less stressful and difficult environment. Watford and Brighton did well In cups and derailed their seasons Wigan won the bloody thing and fell off the planet , Villa got to a final and got relegated. I would love to see us get to Wembley in a cup but for me it's 100% about the League and fighting to stay in it. Swansea and Birmingham have both pulled off a surprise win in recent history but it's usually they same faces every year winning it .
"We are still a bit on the way to figuring out which position he helps the most, but during the season I think we might need him in both," said the City head coach. "He has trained in both since he came to us and you can see he is capable. https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city...eals-ibrahim-amadou-selection-poser-1-6236584
As per, hopefully, Amadou and Idah tonight. And Byram and Heise for that matter. And if any of them play a 'peeky' blinder, it opens up new possibilities for West Ham at the weekend, perhaps.
To be fair, the season highlights for Herr Farke's first season were in the cup and the hope that such spirited and great performances against Chelski and Arse could be replicated. Add to that as you also say, we have blooded several youngsters, if we are broadly speaking not playing anything more than a second string until the later stages (If we ever make them!) then the impact should not be too savage on league form. I agree the league comes first, but the two are not unbalancable, even if some clubs have fallen foul of getting the balance wrong. Attaching any importance to a following season UEFA cup run is a wholey more tricky beast. (That we definitely won't worry about until/if it ever happens Bah!
