Best Driver: Chaz. Extraordinary coolness under pressure. Worst Driver: Seb. The very opposite. Luckiest Driver: Grosjean for still having a drive. Unluckiest Driver: Hulk, for losing his. Best Rookie/New Driver: Albon Best Team: Ferrari. Turns out the hard tyre was right for them. Surprise Team: Ferrari. For making two decent strategy calls in a row. Worst Team: Haas. Best Strategy: Ferrari. Worst Strategy: ? Best Overtake/Defence: Chaz. On the line. Took advantage of the teams asking after Spa for more use of the black and white flag where there’s no contact. Smart kiddy. Giant talent. Most Surprising: Renault Least Surprising: Vettel’s brain fart. Funniest moment: Q3 Excuse of the weekend: “But he’s a four time world champion” Special Mention: Renault and Dani Ric stepping up. Cyril The Meatball doing a good job there. Race Rating: 8/10 - tense as hell.
Best Driver: Perez, 7th from 18th on the grid Worst Driver: Vettel had a day to forget, (or is that year?) Luckiest Driver: Albon, ballsy but foolish trying to stay with Sainz when he would've had DRS just around the corner. Unluckiest Driver: Strololol, was having a decent race until Vettel. Best Rookie/New Driver: Albon, had an early scare, but finished well enough, possibly could've gained another position without the Sainz incident. Best Team: Renault, yeah, not on podium, but a good showing from them. Surprise Team:Renault. Worst Team:Haas beaten by Williams, so them. Best Strategy: Ferrari. Worst Strategy: no one had a particularly bad one. Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): Charlie boy, got his elbows out when he needed too, I'll be watching for the B&W flag from now on. Most Surprising: Renault being quick and both cars finishing in the race. That hasn't happened often since Alonso left them. Least Surprising: Sad to say, a bad mistake from Vettel. Funniest moment: The Q3 procession. Excuse of the weekend: whatever was said about why 8 cars missed their flying lap. Special Mention: Bottas, Hamilton & Kvyat was going well until the Honda became a BBQ for the marshalls at Retifilio. And Giovanassi, who had his best result of the year. Race Rating:7.45/10 Not as good as some of the races lately, but there was a battle at the front for the majority of the race.
Best Driver: Charles LC OK so some of his moves were a bit questionable he did so well under pressure. Worst Driver: Vettel - he just can't get the best of the Hybrids Luckiest Driver: Vettel, a split second later and he would have had Stroll spear him in the side! Unluckiest Driver: Stroll, he was doing very well and gets clipped by Vettel then he must have been so angry drives back into traffic and justly gets penalty. Best Rookie/New Driver: Albon doing very well considering how new the car is to him and the pressure he must be under. Best Team:/ most improved - Ferrari - they finally seem to be making the right calls Surprise Team: Renault - not really a surprise but they finally put a good weekend together. Worst Team: Hass they seem to be going down at a rate of knotts Best Strategy: Ferrari with CLC very good call. Worst Strategy: Maybe Merc, with 15 laps to go Lewis couldn't get past, he could have pitted for his used softs and maybe caught and passed CLC worst case he would have finished 3rd. Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): CLC - maybe a bit iffy moves but just pushed it enough to stop Lewis and not get more than a 'warning flag' His maturity and skill are amazing. Most Surprising: Ferrari not blowing it Least Surprising: Vettel losing the plot again Funniest moment: Vettel losing the plot again if we are taking about the race. If weekend Q3 Excuse of the weekend: Q3 well he was going slow so so was I Special Mention: Renault for putting a good weekend together. Race Rating: 8/10 - we actually had a battle at the front on track, not in pits or assisted overtake by DRS. Looks like Merc may have a late fight on.
Best Driver (Dream Team): Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. WorstDriver (Misfits Team): Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen Luckiest Driver: Hulkenberg/Ricciardo. Renault's cars don't cancelled races as it was in Bahrain. Unluckiest Driver: Sainz/Kvyat. They both lose a guaranteed points inside Top-8, I think. Best Rookie/New Driver: Russell. He was really good today. Finish ahead of Alfa Romeo and Haas. Best Team: Renault. Surprise Team: Renault. Worst Team: Haas. One of the biggest disappointment. Best Strategy: Charles Leclerc. Worst Strategy: Romain Grosjean. Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): Leclerc vs Hamilton, obviosly. Most Surprising: Verstappen can't overtake Perez. Least Surprising: No Safety Car today. Funniest moment: "I have some damage" (c) Sebastian Vettel. Excuse of the weekend: My English yet, sorry (yeah, I'm not british ) Special Mention: Horrible crash by Peroni in F3, another strong weekend by Sainz and Kvyat, solid drive for Giovinazzi, Albon looks average but it was only second race at Red Bull (too far from leader's group), bad luck to Stroll and Gasly. P.S.: Juan-Manuel Correa, keep fighting. Alexander Peroni, get well soon. Race Rating: 6.5/10
Best Driver: Charles Eclair. A win he deserves, a win he can celebrate. How many Ferrari drivers win monza at first attempt? Worst Driver: Vettel. I cant see him coming back. He should just bow out. Luckiest Driver: Bottas with the VSC Unluckiest Driver: Stroll getting punted off. He was on for points again. Best Rookie/New Driver: Russell drove very well. Best Team: Renault Surprise Team: Renault Worst Team: McLaren Best Strategy: Ferrari. The Hards were the best choice for defending. Worst Strategy: McLaren. 3 wheels will never work. Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): leclercs defending was good. I didn't see much wrong with it. Maybe the British media see more with that than Albon sainz. Most Surprising: Ferrari needed to win these 2 races and they did it. Least Surprising: Derek Warwick. Funniest moment: Qualifying Excuse of the weekend:Vettels Career Special Mention:Verstappens fight back. Race Rating: 8/10
Best Driver: Charles, he dealt with the pressure, bodes well for some future tussles. Worst Driver: Vettel - he needs to be honest about the reasons. Luckiest Driver: Vettel, his mistakes are causing serious risks. Unluckiest Driver: Stroll, probably too polite to tell Vettel what he thinks. Best Rookie/New Driver: Albon. He has delivered twice now. Let's hope he keeps it up. Best Team:/ most improved - Ferrari, I hope this raises their game now they can see they have a real driver carving a reputation for himself and the team. Surprise Team: Renault, kept looking thinking they were going to drop back, but they didn't. Worst Team: Hass Best Strategy: Ferrari putting the hard tyre on Charles car and finally shaking off the No 1 driver strategy, although they make make Charles a No 1. Worst Strategy: I wonder what would have happened if Lewis pitted later, he didn't get the undercut. Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): Charles defense Most Surprising: Renault, way off the pace but a good result for them and raises hope that they improving. May be back to normal in Singapore tho. Least Surprising: Vettel and his judgement. Funniest moment: Q3 although it was no laughing moment. I think someone used the term Muppets. Excuse of the weekend: Q3 itself, dreadful. Special Mention: Renault Race Rating: 8/10 - thanks to Charles and Lewis.
Wouldn't worry about your English. I want to refresh my Italian (used to live in Milan years ago), you have given me an idea to get onto an Italian forum. Trust me, it will be worse than your English.
Best Driver: Charles Leclerc Worst Driver: Sebastian Vettel - Rejoining the track like that was the worst bit of driving I can remember from any driver, and it was a 4xWDC doing it! Luckiest Driver: Sebastian Vettel - light contact with Stroll could easily have been a high speed t-bone. Unluckiest Driver: Carlos Sainz Best Rookie/New Driver: none of them were amazing honestly. Albon maybe? Best Team: Ferrari - Out-strategised Mercedes for the first time in living memory. Surprise Team: Renault Worst Team: McLaren - those points could be costly. Best Strategy: Ferrari Worst Strategy: N/A Best Overtake/Defence (Racecraft): Leclerc-Hamilton, occasionally got a little close to the limit, but who doesn't love a race long battle? Most Surprising: Renault 4th and 5th on a power circuit, maybe they do have 1000bhp. Least Surprising: The cut to Vettel pointing the wrong way. Funniest moment: Q3 Excuse of the weekend: Whatever they said to excuse that farce on Sunday Special Mention: Perez from the back in a Force India. Race Rating: 8/10
Best Driver: Hamilton / Leclerc. A great battle between the two and they both drove better than all others. Not only did HAM put immense pressure on the leader despite losing downforce into almost every braking zone – which Bottas could not achieve – he also did well to avoid what could well have been a catastrophic contact, and then reapplied the pressure! I think he should be forgiven for overshooting the first chicane when his tyres could finally take no more. Leclerc did well not to crumble and was a very popular winner, of course… Worst Driver: There is really only one possible choice: Vettel. First, an appalling driver error to spin all by himself; and then an extremely dangerous rejoin. Stroll did well not to smash into the German. Come in number five, your time is up… Luckiest Driver: Vettel. Unluckiest Driver: Sainz / Stroll. Best Rookie/New Driver: Probably Albon this time but Russel and Norris still did well. Best Team: This ought to have been Ferrari, but both drivers are major components of a team and Vettel once again let them down in a big way. Renault. Surprise Team: Renault. Worst Team: Haas / McLaren. Best Strategy: Ferrari / Leclerc. Excellent under immense pressure. Best Racecraft: Hamilton - for reasons stated above. Most Surprising: Renault. What a great performance. Least Surprising: Kubica. Simply too slow for F1 – even in a Williams. Funniest moment: Q3. Eight drivers not getting their final laps in was almost as hilarious as it was ridiculous. Excuse of the weekend: Leclerc justifying not giving Vettel a tow, due to the farce. Special Mention: Ferrari engine for keeping Mercedes at arm's length despite DRS and one of the fastest slipstreams anywhere! Perez for quietly and professionally going about his business. And negatively: Verstappen and Grosjean for reverting to type. Race Rating: 7.98/10. Another good one. What treats we are getting this season!
4.45 am !! you are either en route to the airport or you are in Singapore. At the risk of jinxing it, the season has been improved since, and including, Canada, there were a couple of good ones before that. Mercedes have not had it all their own way recently. What a turnaround. We will have to wait and see if this continues but based on past experience not all the races remaining are Mercedes preferred circuits.
