“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the
necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
    • A player who uses excessive force must be sent off.

To those ignorant fans who don't know the rules - one footed, two footed, or whether you win the ball has nothing to do with it. Barton used excessive force with a high probability of injuring Diaby - badly - and therefore had to be sent off.

Wenger just knows the rules of the game - it appears a lot fans, pundits, and managers like Pardew do not.

but if the player wins the ball cleanly, as Barton did, does that mean he can't go in hard?

Excessive force my arse. It was a firm fair tackle - blame Diaby not Barton, he didn't have to shove two players.

Squallici (or whatever his name is) was a far bigger turning point than Diaby getting sent off. I was at the game and said to my mate as soon as he came on that we'd get a few goals then. Did you pay for him of was he a free transfer?

More fans who dont know the rules.... <doh>

It was indeed excessive force. He completely lost control of himself bundling in at speed onto Diaby's standing foot. That is very different from a sliding tackle from the side at speed. It was the absolute classic use of excessive force. Winning the ball cleanly is irrelevant.

I dont see what you are arguing about?

are you saying it should have been a red card to Joey Barton? If so, I reckon you would struggle to find many that would agree with you as it was a hard but fair tackle. In fact, contact between the two players only occurred after the ball had been played

not even a foul so your whole argument falls down

Salut - you are either not reading or you just cant see the truth. Winning the ball first does not exempt excessive force. Many football fans would agree with you, but not many Arsenal fans. Regardless of fans the laws of the game are pretty clear. You simply are not allowed to win the ball at all costs in the laws of the game.

    LAUGHING
    MY
    FOOOOOOKIN
    ASSS
    OFF

Excessive force? are you kidding me? give yourself a shake sonny jim. Bartons tackle was fine, not to much force, The only thing that could have cause an injury was daiby for continuing through onto barton when he was going to loose the ball because off a VERY POOR TOUCH, which he then did.

A sliding tackle from the side with excessive force was tiote against stevenage, BRILLIANT TACKLE!!!!! but to much force so straight red,

No freekick given by the ref or linesman,
Your manager did not see the incident but saw bartons tackle?

Give yourselfs a shake wnger is ganna be the next manager sacked i hope

    Bunch of has been idiots.

Look, lads, it's clear that 'Bergkamp The Great' knows far more about football than numerous professional referees and that his opinion matters more because he's an Arsenal fan <laugh>

i respect that and i wish arsenal well for the season and the future,

Any person who denies to actually see something to defend it is wrong, He can simple state no comment, not something i want to talk about

him and fab the little toe rag that he is have got all the gunner fans into this state of mind of blame the ref, blame the decisions and blame everything but arsenal.

Fact is i love arsenals football and always have but the attitude off the club, manager, players and fans STINK

Yes he has done a lot, He has done a lot of bad aswell. Its why he does not comment on things anymore because he got in so much trouble. Not that this helps at all.

The point i made on this article tho was that bartons tackle was fine, it was the arsenal player who made it even a tackle and not a interception by going into barton when he had no chance of winning the ball.

I should not say much more on arsenal apart from the fact i think the club went french 6 years ago. Used to be a team full of nationals

are you taking the piss? follow the link below and pause it 1:03 Diaby has his legs open, Barton gets the ball its about 5 yards away from them when the colide, it was the momentum that took him thru Diaby not excessive force! put it this way... Barton goes in slower doesnt get the ball and takes out your player would you complain about that? YES because he got the speed right he got the ball but also took out the player because Diaby wasnt quick enough to react, sort your head out mate its football not netball
