It's a 5 min walk from our house to the pub, but its 35 mins from the pub to our house.
    The difference is staggering.

A married couple were watching tv in bed, when the husband started flicking between tv channels.
Golf, porn, golf, porn, golf porn, until his wife says.
“Leave it on the porn channel. You know how to play golf”.

I really enjoy his series' will definitely watch this!

If you've not already seen it is recommend 'Expedition with Steve Backshall'. I think it was in Dave, and you can find it on UKTV player. He visited some really incredible places, and did some amazing things!

One up for the innocent person.
How many times have you seen or heard about scrapes happening in car parks? I know I've been hit at least once and I try to park well out of the way. Well watch this [I advise you to turn the sound down]:

The dash and other cameras take some views of really stupid people driving horribly. Insideevs.com has a nearly daily parade of them. Can’t imagine what goes through the head of people who drive a one tonne bullet around like this. Hopefully the police can use these videos to get some these crazies off the streets.

Indeed they do. I could easily post 3-4 videos a day on here showing idiots playing up in front of Teslas alone, as well as other EVs. They key the cars, they Coal-Roll** them, they smash their windows, they intentionally try to make them crash or deliberately crash into them. They jump upon the bonnets/hoods or even park across Supercharger stations so that the EVs can't charge on long distance trips. I came across that car park incident video from Insideevs.com.

**Coal-Rolling is a particularly disgusting and dangerous thing. It's drivers of big diesel pickups [trucks] who remap their engine management so that it temporarily runs super-rich. They flick a switch, then they floor the throttle while in neutral, or in gear, as they are going along. This produces an enormous cloud of carcinogenic diesel particulate which can float everywhere. I've even seen videos of drivers clouding people ready to step onboard a bus. The drivers think it's a big joke. There are even videos on YT showing people how to do it:

I finally watched the film I Daniel Blake, this afternoon. Watching this brought home, pretty much all that I have been reading about the impact of austerity and the degrading and dispiriting manner in which people are treated, and this barely scratches the surface.
On two occasions, during the film, I unashamedly wept at the desperation.
It can be viewed in it’s entirety on YouTube.
Ken Loach has recently brought out another eye opening film, called “Sorry I Missed You” which is about a man taking on a zero hours job delivering parcels.
The trailer indicates that it will be as revealing as I Daniel Blake, exposing the cruel manner in which desperate people are being exploited.
Perhaps both films should be shown to school leavers, to prepare them for the future.

coming back to EVs (and Dyson saying he can't make one that will make a profit) Why are they so expensive?

A wee boy in Southampton finds a tartan rug in the back of a cupboard, wraps it round his waist, and says ` Mum, look, I`ve got a kilt on!`. Mum gives him a slap and says `Kilts are only for stupid Jocks, now go see your father`. Apprehensively, the boy says ` Look dad, I`ve got a kilt on!`. Dad takes his belt off and gives him a good leathering, and says ` Kilts are only for stupid Sweaties, now take that off!`. Wee boys sobs and says, ` I`ve only been Scottish for 2 minutes, but I hate you English ba$tards already!`.

It's just very expensive to become a new car company. Dyson also made the classic mistake of building an "everyday" style car and pricing it so that just a few people will be able to afford it. The only modern startup car company to be successful so far is Tesla, because they've done it the right way. And you can look up countless YT videos of Musk explaining how they've done it, so I won't get into it here. As for not making a profit - anyone who follows the progress of EVs knows that Tesla could make a profit any time they choose (and they have). But they are so busy self financing extreme growth that they break even. They still have several billions in funds. So to make a profit they'd have to slow down or stop their growth, and that's no good when there are countless millions of conventional cars on the roads that need replacing, and Tesla make 400,000 a year (but growing like topsy). They also have that new China Gigafactory 3 to pay for. Then comes Europe Gigafactory 4 in a year or two.
On why are EVs so relatively expensive to buy? Because EV batteries still cost quite a lot of money. It's a lot less than it was, but it's going to be a few years before price parity happens. Something around 2023-4 by my estimate, excluding new tech breakthroughs.
But bear this in mind, significant ICE vehicles show little or no profit aswell. The way most money is made on them is through servicing. There's a constant revenue there that barely exists with EVs because they don't need constant servicing, so ICE vehicles can be offered cheaper. Plus, the huge investments in ICEs are largely over, so that's another cost reduced.
But where EVs are pitched against direct priced ICE rivals, for example Tesla v BMWs or similar priced cars, they wallop them. They are better at pretty much everything, plus they are also way cheaper to run. That's when you realise that EVs aren't so expensive, even now. And they will get cheaper through economies of scale, and once investments become amortised. It's just a matter of time. We have to be patient and stop buying new diesel and petrol cars so that VW, Toyota and the Rest get the message.

I would wager that this is more about Dyson not being able to get the returns they want at the level they expect. Their philosophy has always been to offer something that is different/improved in terms of technology and to sell that at an extortionate price above existing market price.

Vacuum cleaner. £100 in the market (?) when Dyson launches theirs for £350?

Washing machine. £3-400 in the market when Dyson launched theirs for £1200

Hair dryer £80 when Dyson launched theirs for £300

Electric car????? Dyson would have wanted to launch at 2-3 times market price with a special technology. They either didn’t have that truly different technology, or they realised nobody would pay the price they’d need to deliver the level of mark-up they are used to.

    My guess.
