Speaking as a complete non-engineer, apart from anything else, on a project like this who would design a tunnel rather than a bridge?

More chance that Elvis will be the first one to walk across the new footbridge than this happening.

There's been several versions proposed over the years hasn't there. It's one of those that sounds reasonable in theory, but the devil's in the detail. They've perhaps learned lessons from the schemes in other areas that have been rejected.

They did something similar in Cardiff twenty years ago and it only cost £120m and made a massive difference there.

Just seen a bit more of this on Look North - it looks absolutely fantastic; despite what the inward looking naysayers will be spouting, building it would be a great boost for the growing tourist industry and, with a possible 14,000 new jobs, for the city itself.

Well yes it would be great , but what are the chances of it ever happening ? Look at the state of the city of Hull
and the absolutely basic things that need doing.

I've no idea of the chances of it happening? Basic things should be done as a matter of routine, local taxes should be used for routine works; the Hull Lagoon proposal would be a massive investment in the city's infrastructure - it would give flood protection, generate jobs and and an income of it's own - it mebbe won't happen, but it could only add to Hull, not take anything away.

My mate back in Hull was looking for a property for me around Hessle foreshore a couple of years ago. He suggested flooding in the area was a potential issue for appreciation value. This may be a good omen to open the search again - should there be any serious intent by the City to finance the scheme.

    Well said :emoticon-0148-yes:.
It would be outstanding and i dont think that other areas of the city would just be left with nothing if this went ahead.
