But what does it solve? What if the person wants to die? Killing somebody for killing somebody else fills a space temporarily. It doesn't bring back the victims.

It's primitive and we can do better.

While I think a lot will agree with you(as I do in a way) But while they are getting better treated then their victims and have better meals then people in Hospital I think something is wrong and maybe a purge would ease the purse string a little and get things back to a fairer system.

But many prisoners of that nature spend their days in solitary confinement, alone in a room with no contact for 23 hours a day. Some cells don't even have windows, they're just small rooms with a bed and a bucket. Psychologically, it's ****ing horrible and it does some pretty damaging things to a person's brain.

There are worse things than death, slowly descending into madness is certainly one of them.

All while taking resources and space for "lesser" crimes,
I'm sure many people will have many differing views, but if it was my daughter I would want a fair trial and if they are found guilty then get rid, I wouldn't want the prospect of getting a call 15-20 years later to say he is been released next week. I would want to focus on keep my daughters memory alive rather then getting haunted by this for the rest of my life.

It solves nothing, but saves me as a tax payer flushing my hard earned down the drain to keep the prats alive!

I don't think the amount of tax you pay per prisoner could even be monetised in legal tender.

So the cost is hardly the issue then, is it?

Society's attitudes towards crime and punishment have shifted away from simply wiping people from the face of the planet. Let's not end up going backwards just because we want revenge.

From my perspective it's the principle. Be a protagonist if you want. My view is that if I individuals are unlikely to contribute to society for whatever reason, and are culpable without any doubt of an heinous crime, then they deserve what's coming to them. For me that's capital punishment. If you don't agree I have no problem with that

But why should the tax payer pay for them?

Because crime and punishment are part of our society, we live in a parliamentary democracy, not a brutal dictatorship. We don't get a choice in where our money is spent, that's up to the government. If you'd prefer lopping off limbs or beheading as a punitive measure, live in Saudi Arabia.

Or you could take the Chinese approach and put people into "reeducation camps". Either way, those types of punishments are backwards and a detriment to progressive society. A bit like murderers, which is why we lock them away.

By the way I think you'll find they are called the courts of justice not the courts of revenge!

The Chinese way is to execute people and send the family the cost of the bullet. Re-education camps aren’t for those who do things like commit murder, they are for people who have the wrong opinion- ie different to what The Party think they should have.

Really. Then why is the taking of a life punished by the taking of a life? That's not justice.

No, I know, I was just citing it as an example of alternative punishment.
