We all enjoyed last season. It was glorious. And I remember everyone saying it was going to be tough, but we would stick by our club even if we came back down. So what if we had done a Villa and spent 140m? It will probably get them to the dizzy heights of 14th. It's no use slagging off the owners and their idea of a self-funding club. There are the mega-rich and the rest, and unless and until we can join the mega-rich, even what sounds like ridiculous amounts of money won't guarantee survival. People need to remember all those things they said last season when it was all going so well and not become faint hearts after twelve games.

The PinkUn board is really nasty tonight. It's as if last season never happened.

I’m not sure what there is to be nasty about. Who do you blame? I’m not sure I could point at a player who has played badly other than maybe Pukki and Buendia, by they’re our best players. Ok Tettey but he’s obviously out of position.

What are we supposed to do? We have the weakest squad in the PL and it is riddled with injuries.

We also don’t have anyone big and tall who can head the ball, so we have no plan B. Play some nice tippy tappy when not pressed.

The only thing I think we can do other than cross fingers is learn to play a bit smarter. Every other team is way better at playing the ref and the jiggly tackles etc.

Can Zimmermann or Hanley work miracles? This was a very poor Watford side, we had so much of the ball and still couldn't score. Really hard to see anything but a miserable relegation with a whimper. Onel the only bright spot today for me. Maybe Stieperman, who was slightly better?
What was Farke thinking when he moved and kept Henandez on the right in the second half. Our best player suddenly uncomfortable and rendered ineffective. With that said, the system was working, plenty of the ball in dangerous areas, undermined by stupid errors and poor delivery.
Want to stay positive, but we look like canon fodder.
    Bah!

Yes, it is looking at the moment as if we all overestimated the players who took us up and our squad is weak. But on the other hand we did beat Man City fair and square in a game where they weren't at their best but weren't awful either, and that squad did get 94 points with 93 goals and finish comfortably ahead of the league. Maybe people who said it was essential to have some players with premier league experience were correct, especially since Krul and Tettey (though the latter not tonight) have arguably been the players who have stepped up a gear, while the young ones seem to have gone backward. Also we seem quite good against top teams who are willing to let us play, but don't have any answer to the premier league's middle classes who are street-wise and focus on breaking up the other team's play. Most important of all, though, seems to be that the confidence is now shot, and our success last year was so dependent on the kind of confidence that brought all those last-minute goals and victories.

We have 3 players injured, all of whom are CBs, but that isn't why we lost tonight. Both goals were down to Godfrey, not Tettey, who I thought played well enough. Perhaps it's the loss of confidence, but the majority of our players lacked intensity. Hernandez was an exception, but he tired in the second half and faded out of the game. Cantwell and Vrančic upped the play when they came on but we just went on playing the same predictable possession football which even failed to score against 10 men. I now accept that we'll be going back down and we should start planning accordingly. There's nothing wrong with the ownership and SW and DF are doing a good job, but our players are not able to compete at this level. Too many balls given away, as that which led to the first goal, totally unnecessarily, and too many wasted free kicks and corners. We failed to keep our shape in defence and paid the price. It's time to accept the reality of our situation and prepare for the worst.

    Did we win ?

One thing is for sure I won't stop supporting this bunch of clowns no matter how ****e we are, there's a certain melancholy to my mood recently and football doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things.

People got too carried away with last season's success. The same people are getting carried away with this season's shortcomings.

I noticed that lack of intensity too. At the beginning of the season we were terriers snapping at the oppo. Several of our players just aren't/can't seem to give that now.
I saw more than one instance when Watford had the ball, one of the players jogged towards our box and Trybull jogged back 6-7 feet behind, not goslside as he should have been. It's just plain lazy. This was going into acres of space between Max and Tetts into threatening area. If Amadou is fit, I don't understand why he's not in there.

    Bah!

Our confidence looked shot tonight. We were outmuscled, outpaced and outthought by an average Watford side who did what they had to do and did it well. We gave away two piss poor goals and offered very little going forward. We looked tired, slow and at times predictable and ponderous. Onel was the one positive in the game for us plus Vrancic (eventually) coming on.

Dunno if we can turn this round, even with Zimbo coming back, I’d like to think we can but right now we look like what we are, a good Championship side playing in the Premier League and that may not be good enough.

    OTBC anyway.

    Bah !

I couldn't stay up for this one (well past my bedtime here) and have just watched the highlights. I'm going to stay optimistic - when we have the spine of the team back, I will see how that glass half full still tastes! It's miserable to lose so many on the bounce, and what is it now, 10 hours without a goal? I'll reassess my mood on New Year's Day.

Didn't see the game, but having watched a play back, I don't think DF's post-match assessment is too far off. A game we definitely shouldn't have lost and if it had been scoreless at half time would quite likely have gone on to win. As I said beforehand, there was no need to invest huge importance in this particular game; let's see how things go after the break. COYY

Sorry, but all pretty much empty rhetoric when we start gifting the oppo an
opener after less than two (2) minutes with a schoolboy mistake ! <yikes>

Yes we need to get an experience CB fit. Godfrey needs to be playing alongside a player that is experienced at CB not an experienced player playing out of position. Tettey playing a CB is not something you would want, but I'm not sure what the other options are. Not sure why DF swapped Hernandez to opposite side, but it didn't work, he was getting a lot of success in the first half, why change ? Cantwell's lack of experience showed big time when he came on yes he covered a lot of ground but his decision making was poor, too much rushing when it wasn't needed, result in many mistakes often in good positions. Agree that there's nothing wrong with ownership, SW or DF and happy with the decisions that were taken over the summer, but I won't accept that we are going back down at this stage. Prepare for the worst ? Most of our squad are young and developing players, they just need to play. Krul & Pukki aside I don't think most of our players are PL quality yet, but think most have a good chance of reaching that level. I thought Krul, Stiepiermann & Hernandez did OK considering, but the rest were below par. Other teams have been in our position and survived, there's no reason for despair at this time.
