Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that following a recent run of poor results, it has parted company with Manager Michael Jolley by mutual consent. Anthony Limbrick and Dave Moore will be placed in charge as interim manager and assistant manager respectively, starting with our all-important Emirates FA Cup First Round Replay tie away at Newport County on Wednesday 20th November. The club would like to place on record its thanks to Michael for his hard work and efforts since joining the club during a difficult period in March 2018 and would like to wish him all the best for the future.
Think GY is ripe for RL Place seems ideally suited. Magic Weekend there with plenty of accom @ Cleethorpes.
Paul Tisdale, though rocking up at Grimsby after the Dongers, must be like spending a week in Withernsea after been to Miami Beach the previous year.
I haven't heard the rant but this is what was said. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...y-shocking-interview-local-radio-station.html In a four minute 12 second clip, which has since been leaked on social media, Jolley criticises the nature of Humberside's coverage and personally targets Dean and Tondeur. 'You are a f***ing disgrace,' Jolley says to Dean. 'Every time you interview me you're antagonistic, confrontational, who do you think you are, Jeremy Paxman? You are a f***ing disgrace of a journalist. The f***ing radio station gives us f***ing no positive coverage whatsoever.' Jolley took particular exception to the way Humberside analysed the 7-1 thrashing by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the Carabao Cup in September. The 42-year-old said: 'F***ing you and f***ing Gwilym [Lloyd] criticise us for playing man-for-man (marking) at Chelsea. I go on the Monday night show with Rob [Staton, Humberside sports editor] because he's a professional journalist and he's a f***ing straight shooter and you don't f***ing ask me a question or when I go off you say "yeah, it was the wrong decision to play man-for-man". Why not ask the manager? Because you've got no f***ing b*****ks, you have to snipe behind peoples' f***ing backs.'
Didn't they sack another manager who rubbished Tondeur? They are a mickey mouse set up who are now even in Lincoln's shadow. It seems we are cursed with tinpot parochial sports and their moronic supporters on our local radio, and also have to suffer a rural neighbouring county full of embittered bumpkin clubs.
I'm not sure whether they sacked another manager who criticised Toneur or not. I must say when I heard they had sacked him, not knowing the story of this rant which was caught on tape at the time, I thought it was a poor decision by the board, as like you say they seem to think they are bigger than they actually are as a club. IMO, Jolley was slowly improving them as a team, and couldn't expect any more than they were getting league position-wise. However after a rant like that, they were right to sack him, and listening often to RH interviews with GY & Scunny managers, apart from Lloyd who is frankly an annoying arrogant twat, their interviews are not particularly critical of their managers.
I can’t remember what he was called but I think you’re referring to the time of their joint managership, Paul Hurst (the quiet one) and ….. (the angry one – can’t be arsed to Google it). This was around the time I stopped listening regularly, but I believe he got pretty aggressive towards Tondeur which I think contributed to his downfall. He, whatever he was called, actually made it quite an interesting listen – always seem unnecessarily aggressive – which makes a change from the ‘giving 110%’ type. I’ve never knowingly met Tondeur. But I imagine him to be about 4ft 7”. Haven’t listened to RH for years – for anything - their match commentary, sports bulletins etc. Or God forbid, accidentally turning it on during the day (bad enough for the travel reports) and quickly scrambling to change the channel. In truth, all of it just irritates: the presenters and their jib, the ****s who phone-in, the match commentaries – all of it. And in the days where there are so many other less aggravating modes for keeping abreast. I just would rather do without the aggravation.
Many a home game has been soured by the negative ****s who ring up to say "Great win but so and so was rubbish, defence terrible , midfield overrun and such and such should never play for City again. Manager must be on borrowed time and he doesn't wave to the fans." 'Twas ever thus. I avoid SportsTalk as it's as dull as it gets even when it's on football. Despite all this I remember Peter Ward, Dave Gibbins and that yellowbelly **** Charles Ekberg........tough times for discerning listeners bitd.
