As seen on the news this morning, a new museum has opened up showcasing 30 random acts of kindness from around the world, surely we can do better than that. It's in the tourist hotbed of Norwich (where else) if anyone fancies going. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-norfolk-50408318

Last year my wife had a health scare when they discovered two lumps. She was given an appointment in 2 days at Castle Hill. Her friend waited weeks in a similar situation. The speed was down to state of the art equipment Allam had provided after his wife’s cancer treatment. This equipment also gives quick results saving weeks of stress. Fortunately it turned out these were cysts and they were able to be dealt with there and then if somewhat painfully (my better half is really tough, puts me to shame and if she says something is painful to me it would be excruciatingly agonising). No time for him regarding City but he has, for whatever reasons, done things which have been helpful for people.
It’s one of the enduring conundrums. Taking City completely out of the equation, this is a local family who built a successful business, live in a relatively modest house and have been generous and philanthropic to the local community. It’s as if they have total personality transplants on entering West Park; their actions in relation to football simply don’t square with the rest.
My contribution of kindness, my good deed about 3 weeks ago now. I was visiting a childhood friend who is struck down with MS in a Harrogate care home, as I do every couple of weeks. An older lady visitor was also there, she could hardly walk, and we got talking as you do! She said she had travelled from Hull, but as she can no longer navigate York train station to change trains from Hull, she had instead travelled by bus, changing bus at York. I couldn’t see her messing about like that at her age, so said as I was going back to Howden, depending on time of leaving, could I help with a lift? She asked if I would drop her off at Howden train station and help get her on a train to Hull. I just wasn’t comfortable with that, so offered to take her home. She could hardly walk, I had to carry her bag and got her in the car. She never stopped talking, I got the life story, medical history, she was mid 80s, it was a long, slow journey, a very careful drive back! She directed me to her sheltered housing on Pickering Road, a beautiful environment, I’d never seen that before. Anyway, I helped her to her home, she introduced me to her neighbours, and invited me in for a guided tour and cuppa. It was a very long day!
My parents are in their 80’s, and every time I speak to them they have a story to tell of someone who did them a little kindness, whether that is neighbours putting out their bins, or the taxi driver carrying their bags to the door, or the ADSA deliver man helping put their shopping away. Many people out there do small things like this every day without thinking twice. But when you’re elderly and your world gets smaller, these things really matter and make a big difference. So thanks to you all out there who do this kind of stuff - I try where I can. Howden Tigress, I bet your old lady will be expounding your good deed for weeks to all and sundry. My grandma would tell you you’ll get your reward in heaven! it really does help remind me that 99% of people are decent folk who are happy to step up and help a fellow human. It’s a shame the 1% get all the publicity.
It would appear so. Worthy of some recognition, some minor honour. It's not as if he had hidden his philanthropic acts. The name emblazoned on every building the cheque book has funded. How Her Majesty missed the photograph in the Uni Medical Centre is beyond me. Then again, it must have been confusing for her when asking Dr Allam what his medical speciality was, and he replied diesel generators.
That's a lovely story and if only the entire world had this kind of attitude....What a wonderful world we'd have.
