I was looking at the league table today and if you were a neutral you'd be mad not to agree Leeds and WBA are favourites for the top two spots but where do you see the main challenge coming from? Last season I under estimated Sheffield United, I didn't believe they would stay the distance, this season I don't want to make the same assumption with Preston, I can't see them challenging for the top two but they do have an excellent manager. Someone usually makes a charge from mid table into the top 6 and looking at the table I can't see anyone below Derby making a push? My biggest fear at present for the top 2 would have to be Fulham, the team that pipped us for a top 6 finish under Monk, thoughts??
Forest bother me, then Fulham. Don’t think Preston have enough strength in squad (but will now probably go on unbeaten run to end of season).
I also think the team I fear most are Leeds. We are averaging 2 points a game, if we keep that up we’ll go up, so rather than worry about the others that’s the focus - 2 points a game and we’ll beat all but maybe one of the rest.
You would certainly think Fulham, Preston I think will stay top 6 but not top 2, Forest I have seen 3 times this season and I've not been impressed at all but they're up there. Swansea will be in or around top 6 but again not top 2, Bristol likewise. The one that's steadily climbing and are the dark horses is Brentford.
Although Gessa, we've beaten WBA, Brentford, Bristol c drew away to Preston, Florist got a jammy draw against us and Swans got a lucky win.
We have mate and should have 3 more points from those games. Interesting few weeks WBA have Bristol- Swansea and Preston. As i think they or us are the likely winners of the league, 3 draws would be nice.
It would do us a massive favour if Brentford lost Ollie Watkins in January, specially if he came to us
For me, this is one of the big differences from this stage last season. We have already outplayed and beaten many of those around us at the top, last season we seemed to struggle against those in the top 6 or had failed to play them yet
Don't like the Fulham manager Brentford are the dark horsesespecially withWatkins who we could have bought for £1.5m Preston will fade not enough squad depth Sheff Wed will be in relegation battle soon
I’m with you. Bottled top six under monk and bottled top two last season ( less said about the playoff 2nd leg the better).
don't see preston or brizzle staying the course I tend to make my views on who's playing the best football as results tend to come for those sides eventually (unless that side is leeds). Brentford and Wednesday are the sides in the pack whose performances deserve better... derby are stringing a few results together. The baggies are this years norwich... seem to keep pulling results out even if performances are average. Fulham actually have more points than they probably deserve, though you look at their squad and worry they may click. Top 6 Leeds WBA Fulham Brentford Florists Sheff Wed
Just went to look at the expected goals league table on infogol, out of interest https://www.infogol.net/en/leagues/english-football-league-championship-table-2019-20/151 Their table based on performances in order: Leeds Wed Preston hull WBA Cardiff They also do a forecast table, based on past results and future match ups: Leeds WBA Brentford Fulham Swansea Preston
West Brom Fulham Bristol City After that nobody. Forest were terrible at ER. Swansea only had one kick all afternoon at ER. Preston should have been soundly beaten. Bristol I feel have massively improved since we hammered them first game. Fulham's quality is scary (imagine Bielsa coaching that lot!!). West Brom are the team to beat. Think we are head and shoulders above everything else (we just need to convert chances to goals). As someone else said.... I'm not worried about other teams in this division. I'm more worried about us dropping off again towards the end of the season. If we start scoring goals.... WE are the team to beat.
