The club is predicting an £18m profit this season, so the January funds might be something like a quarter of that. Other than another CB to cover for Klose's injury and Hanley's ongoing situation, I can't see much need to splash the cash. Possibly another attacking player if Roberts is deemed not up to the PL, but that's about all.
According to TransferMarkt, he plays as either a CM or DM and at 20, he wouldn't take up a squad place next season. He looks the sort of player SW would be looking at and might be seen as a possible successor to Vrančic and/or Tettey.
Trybull does more without the ball and whilst I agree he wasn't great with it, including that wayward strike second half. He in tandem with Tetdou gives us solidity we have not shown in earlier games. 4 points from the last two games says it ain't broke. We have to stop changing our team every game. These guys need some continuity to build understanding. I'd stay as near as is as fitness permits. With that said, I'd like to have seen Mario come on to try to win it and give him a chance to stake his claim. Of course had we then lost, a delicately poised game it would have appeared a por move. Bah!
Talking about wayward strikes, what about Ibrahim A's two attempts at a Tettey-like pile driver from outside of the box -- one described somewhere as disappearing in the direction of Ipswich! Nobody's going to say IA had a poor game on account of that though, are they?
I think I mentioned them on the matchday thread to highlight what a direct replacement he was for Tettey, shooting boots and all. Once avery 18 months we may get a worldy otherwise the cornerflag will need reinforcing! Bah!
Amadou had the highest pass accuracy score of all those who started the game, on either side; 95% according to WhoScored (Ozil 93%, Xhaka 93%). That's pretty impressive (and he contributed 1 key pass amongst them). Once he gets some more game time under his belt in midfield, I think your "once every 18 months" might well prove overly pessimistic!
According to this Arsenal are intent on blowing Spurs out of the water to sign Ben. If he goes, he won't go cheap. Edit: Sorry, forgot the link: https://www.footballinsider247.com/arsenal-rival-tottenham-to-sign-godfrey-in-january/
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly ready to rival Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the race to sign Ben Godfrey from Norwich City. https://readbundesliga.com/2019/12/06/dortmund-enter-the-race-for-ben-godfrey/
Norwich have been linked with a January move for a Paraguayan striker https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spo...s-transfer-rumours-brian-montenegro-1-6411477
According to Wiki he can also play as a winger (or wide player in our system). Would seem that at 26 he'd be available at a reasonable price but if Brighton are also interested they must be favourites to sign him. If true, it makes me wonder whether that means Villa's interest in Buendia is genuine. Could Webber be prepared to sell some players in the £20m region to bring new players in?
I like Ben Godfrey and he is a player with bags of potential, but he reminds me of John Stones. If we were offered £50m or even £30m for him I think I'd drive him down to London or where ever myself. He strikes me as a an footballer first and a defender second. He nor Stones will ever be a rock to build a defence on. He has time to prove me wrong, but if I were him I would steer a long way clear of Arsenal, they are such a basket case at the back. Maybe under Jose at Spuds he might just have the right coaching to really learn the defending art. Bah!
I like Godfrey and he has massive potential, but he is a long way short right now and in my view would struggle to get into any other Premiership defence. Anything over £25m sell and re-invest at least £20m of it in January.
I agree but he's still you and developing and he's played a lot of this season without a CB besides him, let alone an experience one. He on a long term contract so we can afford to keep him for a season or too and still sell him for good money. Any club buying him now will be buying him as much for his potential going forward as opposed to what he currently offers.
It's possible that a big team would play him as a DM for now to allow him to develop into a CB later. Much would depend on our ability to sign an experienced quality defender to replace him if he does leave.
Jarod Bowen is rumoured to be on our radar again: https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-transfer-rumours-jarrod-bowen-1-6415191 With 15 goals in 21 games this season I think he may we'll be out of our reach, especially as Newcastle are also interested and Bruce managed Bowen at Hull.
