Good Morning. It's Thursday 12th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Leeds retain top perch

Leeds remain top of the table after West Brom were held by Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Charlie Austin rescued a point for Slaven Bilic's men after Wigan took an unlikely lead via an own goal.

It means that Leeds lead the Baggies bu a goal difference of +1.

Sky Sports Duo cast doubt over Leeds firepower

Jeff Stelling and Tony Cottee both raised concerns about the lack of firepower at Leeds disposal following their 2-0 win over Hull City

“If I can just cast one dark cloud – well not really a dark cloud, but a cloud anyway – on Leeds, is there a concern that they just lack a bit of firepower? Which they certainly did last season,” said Stelling

Cottee replied: “They’ve got [Patrick] Bamford and they’ve got [Eddie] Nketiah, who’s done well when he’s come on as well, he’s a good young prospect.

“Sometimes they overplay it a bit. Get the ball into the box and give them a bit of service.

“Bamford can be a little bit hit and miss. He had one of those nights tonight and it wasn’t quite happening for him, but you do get 100 per cent effort.

“You’re probably right to question it because in terms of pure centre-forwards, they’ve not got that many options.”

    Do they have a point?

Leeds first shot on target was not until the 82nd minute when Alioski neted. Obviously Leeds first goal came courtesy of a Hull defender, Leeds fourth own goal of the season.

Can Casilla break the Championship record for most clean sheets in one season

Kiko Casilla kept his 12rh clean sheet of the season on Tuesday evening. He is half way towards equaling the Championship record for a single season.

How inspirational has he been this season?

Has your opinion changed of him?

For those of you who may be thinking that the FA / EFL had forgotten or had but the Casilla racism charge on the back burner - think again. The worse aspect of this is that unlike a Court of law ever evidence has to be overwhelming, Casilla can be convicted on probability!

According to Phil Hay, in all likelihood, a decision will not be made until the New Year.

If Casilla is banned, he will miss between 6 and 12 games. Meslier has to be called upon to make his senior debut, how will that effect the mechanics of the team?

Leeds given green light to seen Meslier from Lorient - because he's worth it

It has been revealed that Leeds have been given the option to buy Meslier from his french parent club Lorient for 4.5m.

Whilst many will think its a huge amount of money for someone who hasn't played for the first team yet, let's not forget that Monaco offered £9m for Meslier 18 months ago.

It is believed that the French U20 shot stopper had a big falling out with the club in the Summer when he was told that new signing Nardi was going to be first choice keeper!

Good Morning to Matt and co from a dull Bardsey,
I intend to stay up for some time tonight to see if we can send Goblin Corbin to a rockery where he belongs Lets get Brexit done its been going on too long
The sendings off at Preston against Fulham means that both Preston and Fulham will be without two players against us I am sure Doc will give us more details about the players

Morning all. Wigan actually deserved more than a point last night, equaliser was a comedy and smacked almost of match fixing.
Of course Stelling and Cottee are correct, a blind man can see that or someone wearing several pairs of rose tinted glasses. Bamford has tons of great qualities, no disputing that. As a finisher, he's hopeless. Most of us would head a ball no worse than him for example. Thats not to say we won't get away with it, well have to as spotless Rads won't be signing anyone if there's money involved. I suggested yesterday Bamford needs coaching on his finishing

Its great that everyone has an opinion about our team, Bielsa and our owner and the comments from Stelling and Cotee are fine as far as it goes but bollix. Bielsa dictates tactics and team selection, he loves Bamford not just for his goals but what he brings to the team. Bielsa believes a strikers for job is to defend to hold up the ball so other team members can come in and score. He also believes goals should come from every position. So makes no difference what we think or anyone else, Bielsa does it his way and every one of us on here have told him we want a top prolific striker but ......

having watched Meslier I know why Bielsa wanted him. Not only is he a great stopper and has already saved 3 penalties , hes also a baller and has great distribution. He will be a full French International before longand on the fringe right now with Lloris being out. £4.5m is a snip for the kid. How long will Kiko want to stay? i have a feeling he will want to home if we are not promoted and we thought he may go last Summer, but he wanted to stay and prove a point.....

A glimpse of Xmas past and only Newcastle and Wolves have scored more points after 21 games than us, but look at Bournemouth when they won promotion only 39 points

    Bloody stats
I remember last season's stats particularly the one that whoever was top at christmas wen't on to win promotion, every championship season prior to that, that was what happened, Then along came Leeds, top at christmas :1980_boogie_down:, and then <wah>.
so the only stat i am interested in is, whoever is in the top two at seasons end will go on to the premiership.:emoticon-0126-nerd:

Looking at the chart Doc, after a couple of vinos, it does look like it's only Wolves and Wolves who have scored more points after 21 games?

    Afternoon all

We have a goal scorer in Nketiah and we have a workhorse in Bamford, Bielsa prefers Bamford and he doesn’t wish to play both, we’re top of the table, I’m not concerned yet.

Regarding Kiko, if the club believe him to innocent they should tell the EFL in no uncertain terms that if they ban him, the club will fully support their player in clearing his name and reputation through the courts.

The EFL would cr@p themselves - and Leeds have nothing to lose as they shaft us whenever they can anyhow.

He should sue the FA then with the club's backing.

Not the way we do things though Davy. We seem to just roll over and take the punishment on offer. At least Cellino liked a good dust up with the authorities

Bielsa has mentioned twice that its possible to play both Bamford and Eddie in a modified line up, so as Ristac rightly says I aint worrying yet

dont get how it can be the FA doing Kiko when it was an EFL match and EFL teams. Is it the FA that took 9 points off Birmingham last season for FFFP rules fiddles and will it be the FA taking 21 from the wendies anytime soon and 12 from Derby? Do the Fa have jurisdiction above the EFLif so why do we allow the EFL to negotiate our tv money. If I could be arsed I would use google myself....

Does anybody else keep looking at the table and think "not sure the 11 point cushion is going to be enough to cover our usual 2nd half to the season".

I'm trying not to but that thought just always lingers when I see the table. I mean its Leeds, something will happen surely?

Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri's appeal against a Football Association charges

Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri's appeal against a Football Association charge of using racist language has been rejected.

The FA's independent regulatory commission found him guilty of using racist language towards Mansfield Town's Krystian Pearce in July 2018.

In March, the 29-year-old was acquitted of racially aggravated harassment and using threatening words or behaviour.

The forward will begin a six-game ban with immediate effect.

He was also fined £25,000, warned about his future conduct and ordered to attend face-to-face FA education.

The incident occurred during a pre-season friendly last year and sparked a mass brawl after Pearce's claims against the Argentina-born Forestieri, a naturalized Italian citizen who has represented Italy Under-21s.

In a statement Sheffield Wednesday said: "The club and the player remain extremely disappointed with the findings of the Regulatory Commission and the Appeal Board when Fernando was acquitted in relation to the same incident in a court of law earlier this year.

At the time of the FA's initial findings against him, Forestieri said he was "devastated and disappointed" by the decision.

As there was no corroborating evidence other than Pearce's testimony and Forestieri's denial, there was not enough proof to find the forward guilty of a criminal offence.

The trial judge at the time stated that he had "to accept it is possible, albeit it is in my judgment unlikely, that Mr Pearce was mistaken."

However, the commission felt that while Forestieri was not guilty to the standard needed for a criminal conviction, there was enough evidence for them to find him in breach of their rules.

"The higher standard of proof in criminal proceedings means an acquittal does not necessarily and ordinarily will not equate to a finding that the participant did not commit the misconduct in question," the full written report into Forestieri's hearing read.

The commission based their conclusion on a number of factors, including Pearce's immediate reaction to hearing the alleged offensive term and what the commission felt were inconsistencies over Forestieri's claims of switching between speaking Spanish and English.

Only the two involved know the truth of the matter.
However if Forestieri knows in his heart of hearts that he is not guilty then he should fight this with the last breath in his body.
If he knows he is guilty than he should hang his head in shame as his actions will make it worse for those who are wrongly accused.
    Same goes for Kiko.
I think I may have said before but in my book the FA are holding a smoking gun and need to be very carefull in their judgements.
Banning a player in such cases is a serious matter and justice needs to be seen to be done.If we are not carefull we will be getting players banned all over the place.
One of these days we may even have a black player banned for calling someone a white honky or words to that effect, wonder what the FA would do about that.
Players calling each other names on the pitch in the heat of the moment is completley different to racist chants from the crowd.

Yes to your first question. And as Danny Mills put it, since we are the only club since football began to not go up after being top at Christmas, we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at any time :emoticon-0101-sadsm
