Ivan Furtado has one running in a claimer at Deauville today: Melissa in the 11.10

Last time Melissa broke well and was leading until 1 furlong out over 1 mile in stronger race like this. Today she races over 7 1/2 furlongs. Could sneak a place at least at big odds.

Crack trotter Cleangame made it two wins in a row of the 25m mark last weekend. It was win 13 of the year and win number 32 of his career.

No 13. White, red and black sleeves, white cap. He works wide around the field early on. He's some kind of horse.

In Japan there are two G1 events called the All Star races, the first of these is the Takarazuka and the second is the 2500m Arima Kinen. These races are open to horses 3 years and older. The fields are made up from the top 10 rated horses and 6 chosen by the public. This year we witnessed the first female to take out the double. Lys Gracieux not only won both races, but managed to takeout the G1 Cox Plate as well. 3 G1 wins in a row. Yesterday Lys Gracieux raced for the last time. And what a win she had. She went out with all guns blazing. A wonderful mare.

No 6. Green and white, white sleeves with red band, red cap.

Today in the 11.25 runs Urgen De Gregaine at Pau who finished 2nd behind a stablemate (Diesel D'Allier) at Cheltenham last november. Diesel D'Allier couldn't transfer this Cheltenham form back to france when 2nd to a lesser fancied runner over christmas.

Maybe interesting to know for you.

The sixth and final qualifying event for the premier trotting race on the planet, the Grand Prix d'Amerique was contested at Vincennes yesterday. Last year's winner, the wonderful mare Belina Josselyn needed to finish in the first three to earn a start in the big race in a fortnight. The winner ran a race record. The third horse Davidson Du Pont clocked a scorching final kilometer.

Belina Josselyn. No 15. Blue, yellow arm band and cap.
Davidson Du Pont. No 10. Green, yellow sleeves and red cap.

Three time G1 winner Benbatl, ridden by Christophe Soumillon contested the Group 2 Singspiel Stakes last Thursday. Benbatl started a $1.12 favourite against the small, weak field.

Melbourne's $1,500,000 Blue Diamond is the second biggest 2 year old race in the country. It was run and won last Saturday by No5 Tagaloa in the blue and white. It sat 3 deep outside the leaders.

While the Blue Diamond was being run in Melbourne, Sydney's Silver Slipper was being contested. The better horses will likely meet in the Golden Slipper.

Farnan. No1 in the light colours.

Golden Sixty makes it 9 from 10 in the Hong Kong Classic. He settle well back in the field and worked home hard after getting a late split.

No1, white with blue spots and yellow cap.

I suppose it's about time that the world's richest horse race got a mention on the forum. Apologies if it's been mentioned elsewhere. The race in question is the 1800m US$20,000,000 Saudi Cup which is to be contested at the King Abdulaziz Racetrack in the UAE today.

The Brits have a live chance in Benbatl. He's had just the one run on the dirt, brilliantly winning a G2 at Meydan in fast time. He's on the third line of betting behind the Americans Maximum Security and McKinzie. He's around the 15-2 quote.

The good mare Magic Wand will also fly the Brit flag as well. She'll probably have her work cut out for her in the quality of field, but she's honest as the day is long. There's some 40-1 about her.

The other female is the race is the filly Midnight Bisou who a 10-1 shot. She's won 3 G1 fillies races in the States and comes in with a 5 pound allowance. I hope she runs a big race. It'll be her first start against the boys.

It's astounding what a stout heart and a great name can do when it comes to whipping up enthusiasm. The latest sensation in Australia is a three year old named Alligator Blood. To date he's won 10 of 11. He's a bulldog. Here he is winning the Australian Guineas in Melbourne today. Nice call too.

    2 gate, in the green.
