My conditioning over the years of following the mighty Greens is that this game cannot possibly be as easy as it looks on paper. Everything on the form front, league position and all points East say we should win this at a canter. We have stuck goal scoring form as well as match winning form and obviously this current 11 have everything going for them now that was perhaps missing earlier in the season. Consistency being one huge part.

So, will this be the canter that it promises to be? I think it won't be that but I do think we have enough about us now to win this one and hopefully keep a clean sheet into the bargain. I'm going for a comfortable win without us playing them off the park. I am always willing to be proved wrong on the latter of course. The big question for the match is will Jephcott continue his scoring ways or was he a flash in the pan. He will be eager to impress the home crowd as he has done the away support for the last two. Hopefully he won't be trying too hard that he cocks it up in his panic. We can do this and so can he..................

Looking at the temperatures forecast for tomorrow I think I might have to get my woolly knickers out of the drawer. At least it won't be raining. Once again it seems an age since the last home match. I hate seasons like this when the fixtures are all over the place.

I have to say that football is a strange beast. We have played games where we have mullered the opposition and lost. Today somehow we won a game we really had no right to win.

In the first 20 minutes we were shocking and with no exaggeration they could have been 4 up. We started this game with not a clue how to play and gave them so many openings it was becoming an embarrassment. The fact that they didn't score was down to Palmer and the reason that Mansfield are so far down the league. I still don't quite understand how we went into half time one up.

In the second half things did not get much better. We were still very poor and we still gave them chances although perhaps less so. A penalty which was a stupid one from Mansfields point of view gave us a second and it was not deserved. They then cunjoured a goal out of absolutely nothing and the bloke could not do what he did again in a thousand more tries. It was the most unlikely chance if that's what you would call it from a host of gilt edge chances. We then continued to panic and back peddle giving them even more chances. One was goal bound all the way until Canavan intervened on the line to clear the ball. He put one hell of an effort into getting there and doing that. We huffed and puffed and finally put the game to rest in extra time but I have to say that 3 - 1 was no way how the actual game went. We will take that and if we can win that easily in the end playing that badly then this is definately a promotion seeking side.

Jephcott by the way had absolutely no service all afternoon so it was neither his fault nor difficult to understand why he didn't. MOM was by far and away our keeper.

Both played well so can see why people would like them but without Palmer we would have been at least 3 down at half time and he pulled off other stops on top of that. The goal was not really his fault even if people think he should/could have stopped it. It came from nowhere and he palmed it onto the bar only for it to drop down, hit him on the back of his head and go in. A fluke rather than him cocking up. So, for me over the whole match he was the better man.

Sensible said it. We really could have been 0-4 down after 20 minutes.

We haven't somehow become a bad side, What we saw was a tactical masterclass from Graham Coughlan, having played us twice before this season when in charge at Bristol Rovers. They pressed us very high so that when Palmer had the ball, our thee CB's where marked by three of theirs, stifling our normal play-out-from-the-back method. We couldn't get out and if they could finish, we'd have been dead.

The turning point was an "injury" to Byron Moore half way through the first 45. Lowe waved all the players over the dugout for a "water break" and instructions were passed. After that, we went a bit longer, as we had no oter way of breaking the blockade, and their high press started to turn against them, as the flip side was of course that there were acres of grass behind their back 4, Bakinson started to get into the space between their advanced front 3 and their midfield and gave an outlet for the ball.

Canavan got an old fashioned towering header from a Cooper corner and then we got lucky when they were denied a penalty (rightly I think for a dive) and then we got one which Sarcevic scored. Personally, I'm not sure the offence for which we got the penalty warranted it but it had come 15 seconds after another foul in the box which I think was a penalty that the referee refused, so probably fair if you average it out!

Hardie came on for Jephcott, who had little usable service as Sensible points out, and scored another sniper's goal, no more than rolling the ball into the far corner from 15 yards, or perhaps time was slowed down by my ragged nerves.

We got away with this one but Lowe's desire to play out from the back combined with the abilities of our back three, who haven't been conceding many but aren't the greatest on the ball, is going to catch us out if other teams employ the same tactics.

Their penalty shout I called straight away by shouting "you cheating bastard" for which I apologised for immediately to the lady sat next to me who just said well you have to call it what it is. For our's I too was a bit 50/50 for Sarcevic but the one we got straight after was a nailed on firm shove in the back and therefore without doubt. We needed that.

Having watched the IFollow video, from a different angle for the one I got from my seat, what I thought was a penalty definitely wasn't and the one that was given definitely was. Fair do's to the ref, who again I thought did a decent job. Twice in one season, what's the world coming to?
