Can anyone explain why Alli's playing in such a deep role now, given his form in Mourinho's first few games? It's bizarre and he clearly doesn't suit either him or the rest of the side. Given our lack of strikers and the failure to use Son or Moura effectively up front, I think that Alli should get a run at it. He's never going to work as an out-an-out frontman, but I think that he could do a job as part of a loose front three. Starting Son on the left, Alli in the middle and Moura on the right and allowing them some freedom could work.
He played a deeper role a few times last season and always when our CM options were depleted. The narrow and in many ways desperately unlucky defeat at Anfield springs to mind as one such example. It definitely isn't getting the most out of him but he is, when in the mood, a nuisance of a player who gets stuck in and covers a hell of a lot of ground, so it does make sense playing him deeper over other players. That said, I wouldn't half mind trying Lamela in a similar role instead of sacrificing Alli for it. He'd probably be sent off within 50 mins, but those 50 mins will be incredibly frustrating for the opposition. So as long as our free-scoring striker establishes a healthy lead by then, we ought to be fi...oh, wait.
I didn't think that this looked that close at the time, though the goalline technology certainly dispelled that notion: please log in to view this image Looks almost unimaginable that it was cleared, looking at that photo. Probably not what people mean by an impact sub, but it really was.
Mine as well, so cool he could probably still play the WC in Qatar and run rings around people. Not many players since Greavsie and Gilzean got to WHL on the bus.
Cool and class and a pleasure to watch. I also enjoyed Corluka on the other side who always looked slow but got the job done without fuss. The present side falls well short of Redknap's team in those areas at the moment.
In most areas now - if I go with this Harry team - (the one that Won at Arsenal) 01 Gomes 02 Hutton 03 Bale 04 Kaboul 13 Gallas 32 Assou-Ekotto 07 Lennon 08 Jenas 11 Van der Vaart 14 Modric 09 Pavlyuchenko How many of the current team get in? Hugo, for Gomes, and Harry for Pav - Aurier v Hutton is close and in form Toby or Jan would be ahead of Kaboul but on current form? Sonny for Lennon maybe, Sissoko for Jenas
Look carefully at that angle and one can see that the line is very slightly on the inside of between the posts. As much as was missing for the whole ball to be over the line. I have never looked this closely and don't know how it compares with other grounds. Surely the technology should be based on a laser going between the posts as opposed to a 'thick' white line.
I see what you mean. I'm not sure how it's adjudicated, but I'd have thought that it would affect both sides equally. It does look really slightly off, though. Might just be the angle.
Is the width of the line measured to tolerances that the ball was deemed not to have crossed the line by? Is it consistent across all the grounds? I doubt it, which means the decision is a matter of opinion and NOT fact Which in turn means that contrary to what Jose said the goal line technology can be wrong just like the ref before it. The only one bit of football tecno I had approved of was goal line tecno, now this has been pointed that's gone for me too. It's all bullshit and just something else for the FA to waste fans money on.
All lines must be of the same width, which must not be more than 12cm (5ins). The goal lines must be of the same width as the goalposts and the crossbar. The position of the goalposts in relation to the goal line must be in accordance with the graphics. The goalposts and the crossbar must be white and have the same width and depth, which must not exceed 12cm (5ins). https://football-technology.fifa.com/en/media-tiles/about-goal-line-technology/
Well the goal line at Old Trafford is drawn in a semi-circle arc. That much we know as a fact, as corroborated by Pedro Mendes.
Back in the dark ages we used to use the intestines of people from Woolwich but it was such poor quality we substituted corned beef tins from Fray Bentos, This was one of things that attracted Ardilles & Villa many years later.
It's measured/gauged off the posts not some painted white line Hawkeye uses cameras pointed at the goal frame and other systems use magnetic sensors buried in the pitch to sense the actual position of the ball. Painted white lines would not be very accurate if the pitchman had been on the piss the night before
