So the Wylan Cyprien dream appears dead, as we've got Nabil Bentaleb on loan from Schalke. Due to be announced this afternoon, player is on Tyneside as I type this.

He was bang average at Spurs a few years ago before heading to Schalke. Early on he had quite the reputation, doing really well at both u-18 and u-21 for them. However recent signs aren't so good; he was bought by Schalke for £17m, but according to TransferMarkt his value has plummeted to £5m. This is mainly because he's been in the Schalke reserves team for 12 months due to a disciplinary issue.

Seems to me it's a bargain basement thing. He's not going to be anywhere near first-team ready for weeks and weeks. Very underwhelming signing, but looks like this is the mystery man. Him and Lazaro? We will wait and see, but I don't understand how either of them "improve the team" as Bruce keeps banging on about.

    Not in eveyone's eyes:cheesy:

Nabil Bentaleb insists doesn't want to 'go to war' with Schalke 04 despite going through a tough spell at the club.

The central midfielder was demoted to the reserve team in the second half of last season due to a disciplinary clash with the club, and he's still kept away from the first-team squad.

"The situation with the club is a bit complicated at the moment. That's no secret. To be concrete, they don't want me to train with the first-team squad or to be associated with the squad in any way. When I say 'they', I mean the management and not the coach. In principle, I'm waiting to leave," Bentaleb told French magazine Onze Mondial and continued:

"I have shown good faith and a will to work. They put me in the B team, and I kept working. The coaches and the people in charge of the second team praised me and spoke positively about me. But there is something in the way, something that has been broken. I don't know what it is. It's not coming from me, but from their side."

Both are long shots, in my opinion. I find it astonishing we can't seem to find and acquire the services of decent, up and coming players. Instead we seem fixated on players who've fallen from grace, I presume in the hope they can rediscover some glimmer of previous form.

It's like our scouting team are looking at Soccer Index instead of doing actual ****ing work.

I can see the idea... miss out on players and if they fail , go back in for them.. one bad stint doesnt mean they wont come good .

    Spurs fans comment

If he gets his head down he'll be a good signing for you, good all round player with no real weaknesses. I'd have him back at Spurs any day of the week.

As always the proof will be in the pudding. I like our policy of bringing certain players in on loan with the option to buy if it works out. Shelvey is cack at the moment and Hayden whilst he gives his all just isn't premiership quality. It's another option for us and could work out well, if not....we send him back.

    It's a no brainer.

    But who has seen it?

At least with fatty Ben Arfa people have seen his ability despite being a knob.
